Sam's just an idiot.  I don't think there's necessarily coaching to overcome that.

I wonder if contract incentives could have been inserted into his contract regarding his ability - some 3rd party arbitrator to judge 'improvement' or something :)

You know more about pure basketball than me so i'll take your word on what is and isn't learnable - but i think the sixers attempts to do whatever they tried to do with louis williams did break him

Plus I think both iguodala and Williams are over 'trying' due to the big contracts, they need to settle down and play with in themselves.

Is anyone really surprised that this game got a lot closer?

Apparently a sense of desperation is only good for 15 min of inspired basketball- then you regress.

Maybe it's just that my memory sucks but it seems to be a pattern - good for the first quarter - and then not so much - is that just because the bench sucks or is it something more - it's like the 'scripted 15' in the NFL - those plays work out and then the eagles often seem befuddled

They need to have more starters on the floor to start the 2nd.

That's why Speights and Lou should actually come n earlier in the 1st, so that Miller, Sam and Iguodala can play meaningful minutes with the second unit.  Sam could use his athletasism to get easy chances with the 2nd team.

Having Lou lead the 2nd unit is a failure.  i think maybe he will press less if he is mixed in some with the starters.

I think, unfrotunately, at this time, at least TWO starters need to be on the floor at one time and ONE of them must be miller iguodala or brand

which will lead to way too many minutes for certain guys

I agree, which is why you take Iguodala out at 6 min in the 1st instead of Thad.  But maybe I'm nit picking.

Again, I really think Iguodala and Sam could play less in the 1st and wreak havok on other teams 2nd units to start the 2nd.

How do you propose Sam wreak havok on anyone?

1. Inefficient 1/2 court
2. Miss FTs
3. Can't convert on the break

How do they ever score?

Thad's shot is really off.  Not sure if it's tired legs or what.  Can't seem to string together 2 good shooting games in a row.  At this point tonight it's probably good for him to try to work the ball as close the the rim as possible, although even those shots aren't falling for him.  This is where the ability to draw contact and get to the line would be beneficial.  All players are going to have games where his shots just don't fall, and when that happens he struggles to contribute offensively because he doesn't get to the line.

Were we spoiled by iversons ability to get to the line or do all these guys really really suck at it?

Iguodala used to be able to get to the line.  Then he started taking a higher percentage of pull up jumpers rather than driving to the rim.

Brand can get to the line.

Lou used to.  Now all I think he does is shoot fadeaway jumpers.

Thad's never been able to and is one of his major offensive weaknesses IMO.
