NBA Discussion / Re: Kwame coming back to Lakers?
« on: July 29, 2008, 07:57:45 AM »
Well Dumars said he was shaking things up.

This must be a prelude to something... the Pistons already have a decently deep frontcourt w/ McDyess, Wallace, Maxiel and Johnson.  If you want Johnson to get more minutes, why did you just add Kwame?

Ricky Davis and the Clippers are perfect together. Now the intelligence on the court can match the intelligence off of the court.
+1  ;D

Marshalls sounds like a clothing store by itself, but "Oklahoma City Marshals" makes sense to me.  I like it.  Barons make sense too.

I know the Midwest gets severe storms, so any storm-related name makes sense... but I agree that "Wind" sounds like a WNBA team.

It would be fantastic to sign Lou to 5 yrs 21M.  That's WG type money for a player with potentially much greater impact.

As much as i hate willies deal, it's not that bad...is it?

Green gets about $4 MIL in the last year of his contract.  So no, it isn't quite that expensive.

Makes you wonder HOW the NBA could compete in Europe with these other teams have more room and money to entice NBA players to jump ship...Now, I don't dont see that happennig to the point that we need to worry right now, but with players travelling through europe for conference play, I would think some tampering would be a major concern for NBA owners.

Especially since a "salary cap" or "luxury tax" are foreign (sorry for the pun) concepts in Europe.  It'd be interesting to see if America could/would adopt a multi-level promotion/relegation system for basketball (like Europe has in many sports, especially soccer).

So since this has never happened, can the hawks now trade his rights?  If the hawks don't renounce his rights, does the cap hold 'permantnetly' stay on the hawks...i mean, this has got to be something they didn't cover in the CBA, right?

That's a great question.  Anyone?  ???

I guess Ed and Iguodala's agent had their first meeting.  Ed wouldn't comment as to whether or not an offer had been extended as of yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if this took only a couple of days, or if this lasted until September.  No one else has the cap room, but I don't think he's going to love our offer.

Koponen, now where have I heard that guy's name before.  Oh that's right we drafted him as a Pg who could shoot and traded him for no good reason, then we drafted an american player with the pick we received (Byars) who was several years older and surprisingly he wanted to sign here and not in Europe (where the younger Euro Kopenen obviously did).  Byars did not make the team (but Shav, Lou A and Cal Booth did) even as a developmental player, was cut and now we have no rights to him or Koponen, both of whom are playing well in Vegas.  It is a good thing I am not bitter.   >:(

That move is what put BK out.  Especially when you look at the trades at the end of the first round and the top of the second for this last draft, BK screwed up royally.  Think Byars wouldn't be useful now as a backup 2/3?  *sigh*

That leaves 36 MPG between Jason Smith, Reggie Evans and Speights...

I'll say a combined 66 for Brand and Dalembert.  That leaves 30 minutes.  Evans probably gets 15-18, Speights and Smith will be left to fight over the remaining minutes.

To start the season, I expect Speights to get ca 10 minutes per game.  By the end of the season, I expect him to get 15-20 and really take over Evans minutes.

Does no one expect Young to see any minutes at the 4 this season?  Wouldn't surprise me to see him at PF for 5 minutes or so a game.  That would cut into Speights/Smith time.

No more cap space to give to Iggy:

AI and AI2 both likely unhappy about this.

Yes, yes they are.  But we're not.  ;D

Dear god people Iguodala is NOT willie green, he's not fungible, he's not easily replaced, he's a key high level piece of a team that wants to win a title...if you let him walk and sign an inferior person than that 'full step' you took forward by signing  brand not has a pretty substantiali partial step backwards...

But yeah, ignore the first four regular seasons and the progression, focus only on the small sample size of the first playoff appearance without iverson, i think that's a stronger indicator of what andre iguodala can do and not do, not the close to 350 games he played before those playoffs

QFT.  While I don't want to pay Iggy 6/75, if that's what it takes to keep him... you have to strongly consider it.  It wouldn't be a 'bad' contract in a Kevin Kenyon Martin or Zach Randolph way (unlike what some of you are suggesting).  Our whole athletic/full-court/hard-defense was set in place by and for him.  Igoudala may not have the greatest outside shot, but he scores, rebounds, defends and passes, basically the NBA equivalent of a "5-tool" player in baseball.  How many guys are there in the league like that?  No one knows how well he will play with Brand at the 4 and he at the 2.  Don't you think we ought to find out first before we lose him for nothing?

Besides, there is the sad truth that beyond rookie contracts, most players in the NBA are about 20% overpaid.  It's the reality of restricted free agency.  I hear a bunch of candidates to replace him (Gordon, Ellis, Redd) but all of those are a significant downgrade defensively.  Not only that, but Redd is just as 'overpaid' as Iggy would be, as we'd have to overpay to get Gordon or Ellis because they are restricted.

Now, let's rate miyazaki movies, spirited away is number 1 right?

Yes. Spirited Away is utterly insane and amazing. I haven't watched it in about 2 years (maybe longer) but my head is still blown.

I didn't know we had other miyazaki fans on here.  Spritied Away is #1, but I also enjoyed both Mononoke and Nausicaa.  Still haven't seen Laputa yet, though.
