Sixers v Wiz 12/19
« on: December 18, 2008, 06:30:10 PM »
Sounds like Jamison will be out.  That's good, since this team needs wins anyway they can.

Who do you think gets the start?  Thad would have matched up well against Jamison.

My guess is the starting five will be eerily reminescent of early last season -

Was there something objectionable in this post I didn't notice?

Evans and Sam starting together.  What an offensive juggernaut.

With Brand out they need offense on the starting front line, start Thad or Speights.  Starting Reggie ruins his value as a wrecking ball off the bench when you need to super charge the team's aggressiveness.

I'd rather they Start Speights.  The Wizards don't have a lot of size and he could probably cause some match-up problems for them.

Speights did start when brand went down before (I forgot) but that's when thad was still in the starting line up and Mo was coach - so we'll see what Tony did.

I don't think it's sound strategy to start Dalembert and Speights together- too much of a problem for the 2nd team.

If you don't start Evans, then who else do you have besides Theo and Marshall?

I love Thad Young as a player, but he is not a power forward.

I hate small ball. I believe in rebounding and shot-blocking and defense in the lane. I want both the first and second teams to have enough size to be as big or bigger than our opponents.

Right now Dalmbert is still a better defender and shot-blocker than Speights, but Mareese is a better scorer and is more active.

The Sixers can still be a 50 game team this season, if they can develop Speights into a low-post scorer. They brought in Elton Brand to be that guy, but Brand is a mid-post player, not a back to the basket guy.  The Sixers needed a big post-up player more than anything else to bolster their half-court offense and Speights is it.

Dileo should use these games without Brand to develop Speights especially when the game slows down. If he can get to the point where other teams feel obliged to double him, the Sixers should be a 50 win team.

But you can't tell that against the Wizards, 'cause they're a bad team now.

I don't think it's a sound strategy to play Sam Dalembert - sixers don't listen to me

I've got a date with Despareux tonight with my two youngest, hopefully I will get to see some of the game when I get back.  God, I need to get a DVR.  Enjoy the game, we should win even without Brand, the Wiz are not good.

Holy Lou Williams.  Looks SO much more comfortable at SG.  Also has nice chemistry with Speights already it seems.
