I blame god Ted.  He made man that way.  None of this blaming it on the devil crap either!!

Why is it that I just read that the jobless rate is at 6.1% but a few articles are saying it's not that bad?  I am def not on the Dem ship called "Great Depression" but we are hurting in this country right now.  I really don't see how anyone can say otherwise if they are in middle America.

Because, on the whole, 6.1% is pretty good compared to the rest of the world. The EU is always higher, except for the socialist countries I should say.

This just goes to show how far we have fallen don't ya think?  We use to not try to make ourselves feel better by saying "but in the rest of the world"

JoMal I forgot to thank you for bringing the pepper plant to this region of the world.

You blame god Ted?

Ted, if I had known you were god Ted, I never would have doubted you.

Please refrain from hitting me with another lightening bolt. The first one took out my favorite pepper plant.

Just be glad I've decided to overlook your recent hysterical rants against my anointed ones.

My pepper plant WAS leaning toward the left a bit.

If the media of the current times were operational in Kennedy's day, with all the outlets and Cable channels vying for attention, no way Kennedy gets the free pass legacy he enjoys today.

On a side note, who assassinated him?  ???

The Great Collusionists arranged for Kennedy's demise.  He was a threat to the continued basketball dominance of the Lakers.

So Jerry West shot him?

Yes, I was. My grade school teacher was told by several of my fellow classmates they had heard that morning that Kennedy had been shot and thought it was a joke. She went next door to another classroom.

I remember the look on her face as she walked outside our bungalow modular classroom back toward our classroom........

Seriously, scandals can be identified all the way back to the circa mid-1800s.

They exist long before the 1800s and are not a uniquely american concept.

Similar thing happened to me in 8th grade when the space shuttle blew up...i was in gym class and thought it was a joke and said something in an attempt to be 8th grade funny...and then i was off the floor pinned to the wall by my history teacher

True.  Which is why I mentioned that they were related to power.

I guess I should have been more specific but since we were talking American politics I didn't think that non-American scandals were relevant.  And they most likely have existed all the way back to ancient times but again have little relevance to American political scandals.  And I would be interested in hearing more about American political scandals that were identified (meaning that the media caught wind of it) before the mid-1800s.

See Lurker, it's not just a Lakers/Spurs thing in regards to taking a comment and running off into the wild blue yonder with it....  :D

Who thinks politicians, much less the President have the power?

Politicians are told what to think and how to act, and are rewarded with getting a chance to continue a privelaged career.  While those with true power and influence bask in the status quo, throwing out just enough bones to keep the mostly un-interested citizenry from going to revolution.

Sad to say in this day in age, this system is one of the best ones humanity has going for it.

Actually some do & some don't...I would argue that Ted Kennedy is part of the power structure.  And the Bush family is also...they just had the misfortune of having the family idiot follow dad to the White House.  No one can know for sure but I think Jeb Bush would have made a better president.  I would say that the current top Dems (Obama/Biden/Reid/Pelosi) don't have any power except that handed to them by the true power brokers.  If Reid/Pelosi had any power then our government wouldn't have been in stalemate for the past 2 years.

It really all goes back to the Golden Rule:  He who has the gold makes the rules.  And the less well known follow up...He who who has the gold also has the power.  Thus the wealth (in whatever form) controls the power and makes the rules which are designed to keep them with the wealth & power.

So does that mean Bill Gates has to run for president on the independent ticket with Warren Buffet as his VP?
