Now the Dallas Mavericks have entered the Artest bidding game. Their offer, though, is weak. Jerry Stackhouse and Brandon Bass for Ron, straight up.

The Kings want Josh Howard.

So does Brad Miller....he needs a smoking partner.

JoMal why does it seem like the Maloof's haven't really pony'd up any large sums of money since they gave Webber that massive contract back in, what was it?  2000? 2001?

Because they gave Webber that massive contract back in 2000/2001.

Apparently they talk all the time to Petrie about fiscal responsibility in doing long term deals. They drew the line. My guess, once they have cap space and the right free agent sitting out there, they put up some better money.

There's been a few FA since then that they could have thrown money at.  Not saying that makes the player automatically want to go there prompting the media to report it...but I haven't even heard of them going after guys at all.

Limited cap space, spent on Udruh this year. The last FA they went after who was then highly regarded was Abdur-Rahim, and it was a mistake.

Any insight or additional information about the Marion rumor?

Ohh yeah, Marion for Artest and Kenny Thomas?
I like that move for both Kings and Miami.

Or do the Kings want Marions overblown salary?

The overblown salary that expires after this year?

Why would any team with salary issues and a need to rebuild want that?

Honestly, the way Petrie works, it surprises me that ANY information comes out on what the Kings are thinking. My guess is that all these rumors start from the other end, so a better question would be - What is Miami doing about this rumored trade?

Who knows what Miami is doing or thinking.  They traded Shaq for Marion and look to not be able to get anything out of it.   So maybe they are just spreading rumors in hopes a GM is dumb enough to go 'Hay why didn't I think of that!'

My guess is that these rumors (as most do) start somewhere in the middle, neither franchise is opening their mouths, just endelss speculation by damn bloggers and sports writers that gets written down so many times that no one bothers to check the original source.

As far as I can tell, the only reasons any one thinks mariion is getting traded is because the heat drafted beasley

You would think though that they would want to trade Marion for a PG to distribute the ball to Wade and Beasley...not for some of the names that have popped up so far.

Just heard that Dallas no longer is interested in Artest because the Kings insist on Josh Howard and the Mavericks do not want to trade him. That, naturally, comes from the Dallas side.

Kind of surprised that Petrie is allowing the idea that he is willing to trade Ron Artest bounce around out there, but clearly won't move him unless he gets the right guy in return. Every team that has contacted him with a lowball offer is getting shoved back for a more meaningful piece.

Wonder how long this is going to go on? I am of the opinion that Geoff has no plans to move him in a desparate move and would keep him throughout the next season if he has to.

Petrie has no choice to allow it to bounce around out there, this started with artest...who moments after not opting out sends an email to ESPN saying he regrets not opting out and opining on being traded out of sacramento...then the speculators and rumor mongers just run with the ball from there...petrie's problem isn't what petrie has or hasn't said it's that aretest has a big mouth and then the maloofs opened their big fat mouths.

Petrie can't get either of those two to shut up

Now, now.

What Joe Maloof said was for ARTEST to just shut up. You can't ask the owner to shut up. You always ask them for their opinion. It is up to them if they then want to publically voice that opinion. Vegas guys tend to like having their opinions publically voiced. Gets the girls, I suppose.

What gets the maloof girls is their big fat wallets and the fact that they can get the girls into hot clubs where they can meet cooler people than the maloofs...you can't tell your owner to shut up, true, but you can politckly encourage them to not comment as public comments will just fuel the fire and possibly depress the price of the player if/when you DO choose to trade them.

I've always thought the better owners are the ones who get the hell out of the way...hire a GM you have confidence in and get out of the way, if you ahve questions, talk to your GM and work it out privately, got issues with a player, do it privately...i'm a fan of marc cuban for many reasons, and don't mind his vocalness towards the way stern is an idiot, but marc, hire smart basketball people and let them spend your ill begotten internet 1.0 billions, ok?

At the end of the day the owner can say anything he wants about the team, it's his team.
