So tanking does not seem necessary....just avoid winning the championship. 2nd place will still get a solid player.

The difference between Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce/JO is substantial.  If I'm on the cusps of the players (where if you make the playoffs you can get the 12th pick, and if you miss the playoffs you can get the first pick), you're darned sure that's crossing my mind.  and IMO that's the biggest issue I see with Joe's proposal.  Because of the fact that most of the top tier of keepers was take in round one, we will continually be hurt by our draft position in these subsequent stocked years.

I actually have a comment on this, but I need to wait until keepers are finalized before making it.

Amare's available next year as well.

Actually there could be up to 17 "keepers" available.  Nash, Brand, Yao, BWallace, Allen are all free agents.

In some ways it could be better to have the 12 & 13 picks or 11 & 14 picks.
It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave.  Keep on thinking free.

Dbods,

Okay, let me give you two scenarios -- one is yours where a GM tanks to get a chance at TD (wow, that's kind like what the real Spurs did, huh?).  So how much fun is the year of fantasy basketball for him?  The second scenario is where a GM is doing poorly (and this DID happen this year) because he has second rate starters (mainly because of the position he was in the draft this year).  That GM, if he is stuck longterm, might lose interest in our league -- I'm much more concerned about the guys on the bottom losing interest longterm than I am about someone tanking the season just to get a better draft slot.

There are going to be enough guys available -- if someone wants to tank the season to get a shot at TD or KG then he's robbing himself more than he is robbing us -- just my opinion.

Of course, there are going to be people tanking the season every year -- Ted and WOW are great examples of that!

Randy, a guy with a legit chance at a championship isn't going to tank.

But what about a guy who's had rotten injury luck.  He's sitting at 6th, 2 games ahead of 7th.  He has no chance for the playoffs.  Both of his keepers expire and next year he'll be left with nothing.  What's his incentive to not tank?

Things are never that cut and dry.

We have an overabundance at the top of the draft this coming year.  And people in a poor draft position will be hurt just like they were last time we drafted.

We are still a long way from being perfect.

Well I made the playoffs a year ago, the first year I had no idea what I was doing.  This year I didn't have the time nor the ability to manage my team.  Checked in about twice a week.

Hopefully this year I'll have more time and better luck.  I'd consider my self really lucky if I got on the good side of the most one-sided trade in our league history.  Joe V is one lucky bastard.

I'm somewhat insulted to be grouped with Ted...dam you, dam you all!

I lost my roster list but I think I'm going with Yao and Shaq.  If I find my sheet I might change my mind, doubt it though.
Nothing has changed, the twin towers are going to be my guys unless something drastic happens.

There's still a flaw in this line of thinking, guys.  I'll point it out soon.

Geez guys . . .

I really tried last year. It just so happens that my "tanking" took place in the draft. Brent Barry in the fourth round!!!??  :puke:

The first year, when I was out of it and had no chance, I did indeed "tank." I traded Steve Francis and half my team to Ziggy for LeBron. And it was worth it . . . or it would have been if I hadn't sucked up last season's draft so bad. But look at me now. According to last season's rankings for Yahoo, I have two of the top three players in the league, and the first pick. I'm planning on competing this year. Next year is, of course, going to be ugly. But then again, If I have injuries or once again pull a bonehead draft strategy, I may have to consider tanking for that draft spot. B)

Ted,
If you don't mind me asking, if this were a 3-keeper league, who would your third keeper be?  I don't have your roster from last year.

I think I will go with Dirk Nowitski and Larry Hughes.

No idea. Don't even remember the rest of my team. That's how bad my draft was.

And besides. I'm keeping my sleek, furry little head inside my arctic air hole. I know your big stinking paws of death are waiting to club me.

So Bods, are you going to select Cord's keepers if he doesn't get on here and declare them tomorrow on Sunday??

I'm thinkin Paul Pierce and Ben Wallace, but I don't know what he's thinkin'.
