The Kings on Friday agreed to trade one of their mainstays when they dealt guard Bobby Jackson and center Greg Ostertag to the Memphis Grizzlies for guard Bonzi Wells. The deal is part of a three-way trade that will send Ostertag back to the Utah Jazz for young swingman Kurt Snyder, center Curtis Borchardt and guard Raul Lopez.

The Jazz gave up more then just Snyder, but Borchardt and Lopez to the Grizzlies as well.

I still remember that you said from day 1 (draft day 2004), that you thought Telfair would be a good NBA player, and that he was a better pick than Snyder.  Your opinion made me give Telfair another look, and I am glad we picked him.  I think he can be a very solid NBA PG.

I have to add that I do NOT like Bonzi Wells. As a ball player, he is very good, but at some point you have to consider the citizenship of the guys who represent your team and this guy came out of a cesspool.

I will reconsider once we find out what is on his mind, and Adelman has a good track record in taking on the headaches from other teams and getting good production and reinvigorated players out of deals Petrie has pulled off, such as with Chris Webber, Doug Christie, Jon Barry, Jimmy Jackson, Jason Williams, among others.

Petrie usually got these players at undervalued rates, Adelman turned them around on the court, then they picked up their problems at the door as they left once again.

Good luck with Bonzi.................................. you are going to need it.  I was actually thrilled when we ditched him.  One thing with Bonzi, his production has dropped for 4 straight years

He will be 29 in September, so he should have a few more good years ahead of him,  IF he can get it turned around.  Only have 1 year left on his deal, so the risk is minimal.

The biggest part of success in the NBA is being in the right situation at the right time.  Bonzi was in a good situation in Portland in 01-02, and it quickly became a bad situation (in no small measure due to Bonzi, but that is another issue entirely).  He got traded to Memphis which had 3 other quality players at the same positions Bonzi played and he could not find his role.

As the replacement for Doug Christie, Bonzi might thrive.  He is good in passing lanes, can post up very well, and is a very streaky offensive player.  He is also in a contract year, and if he doesn't bring it he is looking at $3 million a year at best on his next contract.

The Kings made a MAJOR mistake -- they let Mobley go (who IS a better player than Bonzi) to get Bonzi?  Yeah, like they don't have enough chemistry problems!!!  :rofl:

They are giving up $5,151,545 this year, and bring back $4,400,000.  Ostertag's deal ends this year, and next year Utah was due to pay the 3 $7,121,414.  They will have a payroll of $41 million next.

On the Bonzi trade, I like the minimal risk of his contract should he go bananas and I'm a Rick Adelman believer, get the stray jacket and call me crazy.  I think Adelman will make a producer out of Bonzi.  

I agree with Randy, Mobley is a better player, but I was of the impression that Sacto just couldn't affort the long-term deal Cuttino demanded.  JoMal I could use a second opinion of why they let Cuttino go in the first place.

Sacramento essentially has the exception to show players, or they had the option of a sign and trade if Cutino would agree. He chose neither. The Kings' ownership has no interest in paying more luxury tax on their payroll, so the only real choice open to them involving Mobley was a sign and trade that would bring expiring contracts.

The Kings got a expiring contract with Wells, which should work out pretty well I suppose, if Bonzi plays out his mental nonsense as he appears to always do.

Wow, isn't it interesting what a few years can bring?  A few years ago the Maloof's were thumbing their nose and the league and the luxury tax and now are hurting their present team in their insistence by not paying any more luxury tax (shouldn't they have thought about that before giving max contracts and overpaying players like Bibby?).  Hmm, is their new casino in Vegas hurting their pocketbooks?   :rofl:
