Proof Californians don't know geography

Tuesday morning, having some downtime and feeling obnoxious and cocky I went looking for San Antonio Spurs gear that I could wear and torment Californians.

I went into the Macy's at the Westfield Shoppingtown mall just outside of San Jose, entering next to a Cheesecake Factory restaurant.

But Spurs gear is hard to come by in Northern California.

A clerk in a sporting goods store explained that they only sold the apparel of California teams.

Looking at a couple of LeBron James jerseys on display I made a mental note to visit my favorite California city, Cleveland.

I posted the relevant part...the rest of the article is crap.  I forgot that the Express News went to a registration needed site.  If you get the paper it is in Clack's column in the Metro section.

Did the store have any Kings gear in it either. Being San Jose, I would doubt they would.

So do you think that I can come to SA and buy some Laker apparel?  I SERIOUSLY doubt it.  I used to be able to find LA apparel in Vegas but after moving from there, I haven't had much luck finding Laker apparel -- oh, you will find Kobe apparel and Shaq apparel but that is far different from Laker TEAM apparel -- just like finding a LeBron James jersey isn't the same as finding Cleveland apparel.  Of course, you would know that if the Spurs had a player who fans wanted a jersey of!

Yes you can.  I saw Laker jerseys in Penney's just the other day.  And when did Kobe & Shaq leave the Lakers?  All NBA licensed merchandize is the same....a Shaq or Kobe jersey is a Laker jersey.  A LeBron jersey is a Cavalier jersey.  A Duncan jersey is a Spurs jersey.  I have come to expect some pretty illogical comments from you, Randy, but to say that Kobe & Shaq jerseys are not Laker jerseys is uncomprehendable.

Please, you would never register any comment that speaks positive about the Lakers as "logical" -- at least in your mind.

And I continue to strive to help you understand that the reason you can buy a Shaq jersey, Kobe jersey, LeBron jersey has ZERO to do with what team they play for and EVERYTHING to do with the player as an individual.  If all NBA merchandizing were the same, then people wouldn't care whether it was a Lakers jersey a Spurs jersey or a Clippers jersey -- but since people DO see a difference from one player to the next, it's the reason why stores carry apparel of PLAYERS not teams.  This still has nothing to do with the teams -- only individual players.

First off, where was anything in your original post that was positive about the Lakers?  So I'm not sure what you meant by another off-the-wall completely illogical statement.

Second, of course all jerseys are associated with players.  Do you see Laker jerseys with no names on them?  Sonic jerseys?  Kings jerseys?   No, all NBA licensed jerseys have BOTH a team & player associated with them.  When the NBA totals up jersey sales by teams they don't split out Kobe & Shaq sales from the rest of the team.

Please use some common sense before you type another reply in this thread.  Your "brand" of logic has taken this far afireld from the original topic.

A clerk in CALIFORNIA told a customer they sell only jerseys from CALIFORNIA teams.  But right there on display was a CLEVELAND jersey.  CLEVELAND is NOT in California.

Maybe, just maybe, this has more to do with that individual clerk then what NBA apparel is being sold at her store.

Plus, (shudder) I sort of have to agree with Randy on this  When Jason Williams first came into the League, his jersey became the #1 seller his rookie year. Up to then, I doubt most Easterners could find Sacramento on a map, or even knew it was in California. Still don't, come to think of it.

And I would trade you Tex-ass people Lubbock for San Jose straight up any day.

And next I suppose you are going to suggest that the clerk is not really a Californian either.

Damn you Californians get so touchy when you are on the down side of a series.....except JoMal, he just comes by it from having to live in Sacramento.   ;)

Hate to burst your bubble Lurker but you're wrong on BOTH counts regarding apparel.

There IS player apparel NOT associated with any team for players like T-Mac and KG for example.

There IS team apparel NOT associated with any player.  All my Clippers gear is not assocaited with any player and some of my Lakers gear as well.

Hopefully I won't blow your mind with this one but there is also NBA apparel that is NOT associated with any player or any team!   :o

I know your reading comprehension isn't upto standards so I felt I should clear this up for ya "pawtner"!

Oh no. She sounds very much like a Californian, who typically could not find their way to the next town over unless an earthquake happened to move them in that direction. To them, Geography Class is the one they skip just before skipping out on Gym class.

Living in Sacramento has its advantages.

I guess Cali gave up geography in order to own technology.

Is there anything of technical significance in the entire state of Texass?  Don't even think NASA cause I'll hand you your arse on that one (well Cal-Tech, JPL and Germany will hand you your arse).  ;)

Only if you count the number one PC maker.  But then they didn't develop the technology.   ;)   NASA has no technology development here....just the command center....you know where the true control is.  All they left for California was the landing strip....because when it falls in the ocean there are still plenty of flat dry places to land the shuttle.

Boy, try a little trash talk on you Californians and you get all defensive.

It would have been easier to argue that the sales clerk was clueless about the NBA and what cities different different teams play in.  Which is most likely the case for some high schooler working in the mall after school.

But then that would take all the fun out of reading y'alls comments trying to defend the poor clerk who didn't know the Cavs played in another state.
