When will Pat Riley coach the Heat?
« on: July 09, 2010, 12:20:25 AM »
I think Riley will give Spoelstra one year.
No title?  Enter Pat.

He will enter next year if The Heat are sucking during the reg season.

For those who think Riley burned Stan Van Grunty, the results speak for themselves.

Not happening.  Riley can get a top-notch coach.  After all, he needs his legacy as a GM too, and that means being able to pick winners, not just coach winners.

The team goes .500 and Sp's days are numbered.   Which means they better turn it around quickly because if they drop another game that is where they will be sitting.   I know people are saying its still too early to say they are toast, which I don't think they are, but for a team with that much talent to be 5-4 is a very bad sign.  It means the coach isn't getting through to them and getting them all on the same page.

I honestly think that Wade, Bosh, and James came into this season thinking it was already a lock for the title and they could mail it in.  Now that it is clear they cannot they look confused.

This won't go down as a coaching failure.  If anything, it'll go down as a chemistry failure.

Spoelstra's the coach, and it's going to stay that way.  It'll take a couple of years of failures before Riley's ready to change coaches.  And Riley won't be coming down to coach this time around.

8-6 after getting pummeled by Indiana.

I wonder if they are gonna go with the "it's injuries" reasoning and stick with Spoelstra.  Which is true in part with Mike Miller, Haslem and Wade.
Injuries or not, the Heat still look horrific too often.

Eric Dampier gonna help much?

Well they went from 9-8 and looking like a very real possibility of Riley to 18-8 and ain't gonna happen now this season.  (Well never say never)

I'm not sure if this is good for Heat Fan or not as regards Championship realities this year.

The Phoenix Suns and (D)allas Mavericks have looked good in the regular season as well in years past.  Ultimately, it's not having a center that killed them.  And I ultimately see that as the failure for Miami as well, especially given that Orlando, with the best center in the game, is not only in their conference, but in their division.

It will be lack of size that ultimately kills Miami this year.

^^ The Grizzlies are making center Hasheem Thabeet available, reports David Aldridge of NBA.com.  ;)

Wow, Riles says no.  However, Spro has only one more year on contract.......
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Asked specifically if he felt an urge to coach again, Riley shot down the notion.

"No, I'm not going to," Riley said of coaching. "It doesn't mean that I don't have the fire. But we've got a great young coach here, and I want to support him. And hopefully, he can grow like I did. We'll bring Erik back, definitely."

Apparantly not in 2011-12 either as Riles just extended Spoelstra.

MIAMI -- Another potential 2012 free agent is off the market. The Miami Heat, concerned he might attract interest from other teams and pleased with his performance, signed coach Erik Spoelstra to a contract extension Friday.

"We have one of the great young coaches in the league and (he) is an absolute member of this family," Heat president Pat Riley said. "He's the perfect coach for this team now. The reason why we did it was to extend him and keep him in the family and (not) have somebody come steal him away from us."
