Eagles are in a good spot now.
« on: December 29, 2009, 02:45:31 PM »
In spite of the injuries and stumbles through the season, the Eagles find themselves on a winning streak an with a chance to secure a first round bye with a win against Dallas at home.

The only concern is the season-ending injury to their Center, the key to the Eagles season is the O-line. If they can protect McNabb, the Eagles are the leagues most explosive offense.

The game against Denver was not as close as the final score. A terrible call by the refs turned an Eagles interception into a play that put the Eagles offense on the 10 yard line, virtually giving the Broncos a scoring opportunity, and another fumble by the Eagles on the subsequent return put a winded defense on the field. The refs almost cost the Eagles the game when they ruled a catch by Maclin was out of bounds, fortunately it was under 2 minutes, and upon review was ruled a completion.

Surprised that the Giants came up so lame in their final at the Meadowlands stadium.

Lots of people are jumping on the Eagles bandwagon now that the Saints look vulnerable.  They are likely to get to the Super Bowl this season, and may finally be good enough to win it all.  San Diego and Indianapolis look to be the two best of the AFC, and I suspect the final match will be the Eagles against one of those two.

You think the Eagles are a lock to beat Dallas?

No. The Cowboys did beat the Eagles in Phila. earlier this year so you know they are a capable squad. On the other hand McNabb was injured prior to that game and the offensive and defensive lines had holes as a result of injuries that had to be addressed.  Since that time they have dealt with those problems and developed this offense to where it is now.

If you look at the raw numbers, McNabb is behind the others but that is because he played fewer games. at this point in their careers, there is no question that McNabb is the more accomplished QB, and that Romo has never won a big game.

Honestly, I thought the Giants were going to squeeze the Cowboys out of the playoffs, the Cowboys beat a lousy Washington team and New Orleans and lost it's two other Dec. games. The Eagles have won 6 straight. Which team looks ready to move on to you?

That was a terrible call.. and to top it off Macho got fined for the hit.

Definitely concerned with the O line now that Jamaal Jackson is out. He was playing great, and now we're weaker at center and guard since Cole is moving over to C.

I put more money than I should on the Eagles +3... commence crossing of the fingers and toes.

I thought the Cowboys showed something vs New Orl.  After the Charger game i thought the Cowbois were done.
Being it's at Dallas, i only favor Philly by 60/40.  Philly needs it to win the division or no?

Whoever wins the game wins the division. If the Eagles win they get a first round bye and home field for the first game. Dallas is a game behind, a win will tie their records and they will get the division based on head to head record.

Dallas offense put up more yards, but the Eagles scored 90 more points. Dallas defense gave up 60 fewer points than the Birds.

Eagles do get to Romo. They sacked him 4X in game one. Since Reid has taken over as coach they've only lost 1 2nd game against Dallas, even though their record against them in first games isn't as good.  Andy makes good adjustments and prepares the team well for games like this, this is a game where coaching gives the Eagles a big advantage.

Oh man.. that was an ugly first half. Both sides of the ball are struggling.. time to start drinking

Asante is the most overrated corner in the league.

Andy made some decisions I didn't agree with but in the end I can't put this one on him. The team just stunk it up out there.

Crazy that we have to go back to Dallas next week. We have to play better, there's no where to go but up... I'm not putting any money on it though ;)

The only positive I take away is the fact that it's awfully hard to beat an NFL team thrice in one season.

Yeah i almost wish the NFL would follow baseballs format and say Wildcard cannot be vs same division team in 1st Round.

Eagles very unpredictable this season.

Man, they looked terrible on both sides of the ball. McNabb threw so many bad balls it's amazing the score wasn't worse. Our d-backs looked terrible in coverage-that was supposed to be our strong area.

Clearly Dallas is the team in the NFC now, the Eagles had a lot of reasons to get the jpb done yesterady and didn't. It's hard to see how they can turn that around in a week. Their O and D lines aren't going to get any bigger or stronger.

It is hard for a team to win three in a row, but if these teams play to form based on the previous 2, this is another bad season for the Eagles.

1.  I don't think this gam can be pinned on McNabb.  And no one is more critical of him than me.  Lots and lots of dropped balls...pressure...and half-assed routes run (Ahem Desean.)

2.  d-backs...maybe.  But if YOU had the kind of time Romo had...you'd have gotten open, too.

3.  Bigger and stronger isn't why one team wins or loses.  At their level...it's know-how and how well they work together.  That's a patch-work O-line we got there.  I was surprised to see they even played HALF-decent.  But the defense needs 10X the pressure next week.

4.  Don't like the beat-a-team-three-times argument?  Ok.  The use this one:  Check Andy's record during the upcoming week.  And then check Romo's.

McNabb overthrew Deshaun and Maclin on two plays that could have been touchdowns. The whole complexion of the game could have been different had the Eagles scored before Dallas got their 2nd touchdown. The offense was so bad the defense was on the field for most of the first half. I never thought they got into any kind of rhythm, as though you could expect them to make plays.

O points by this Eagles team, the one that put up a record number of points in a season this year? Pathetic.  With this offense I thought that 24 points would be nothing, instead it was 21 points more than necessary to win! Andy's got a lot of work to do this week to turn this team around. McNabb needs to lead his receivers instead of throwing behind them. And the o-line needs to do some effective run-blocking to give Donovan time.

If the queen had balls she'd be king.

Citing two bad throws and not mentioning the fact those guys couldn't get open during another couple dozen isn't fair.

But - while we're at it - if the Cowboys didn't have abut 11 penalties, maybe they win 48-0.
