Timmy Dunks to start at 240 pounds (-15)
« on: August 09, 2009, 03:37:26 PM »
Timmy Dunks resting much for for the 1st summer since ever.
per Jonny Ludden:

Popovich also is hopeful Duncan can regain the All-Star form he showed during the first half of last season before his sore knees slowed him. In past summers, Duncan would already be working out in earnest, tossing tractor tires and scrimmaging full-court. This summer, he?s been confined to the weight room, where he?s strengthened his legs and further slimmed down. Popovich said Duncan has lost 15 pounds and now weighs 240, a noticeable drop for someone who alternates between power forward and center. In comparison, the Cavaliers said LeBron James played at 270 last season.

To keep Duncan as fresh as possible for the playoffs, the Spurs want to reduce his court time in the summer and limit the pounding he absorbs in the post during the season.

"My goal" Coatails Popovich said, "is for him to start the season out of shape". -end expert.

Side point Lebron outweighs Dunkar by 30 lbs.  Pretty freaky, huh?

Mason has also lost weight.  Purportedly 15 pounds.

Lakers assistant coach Greg Popavich has been running Matt Bonner with the starters.

Makes sense to me.  Bonner's outside shot will allow a more mobile Duncan and Jefferson room to work in the paint.  McDyess overcrowds the lane.

Lakers assistant coach Joe Vancil?

Or just another person, like Popavich, who might know a thing or two about basketball?

hmmmmmm

Heck, no, I'm not a Lakers assistant coach.  If I were, I'd have quit the moment an embarrassment like Ron Artest was brought in.

Dennis Rodman in Purple, Part II.  Sure - he'll help you win some games, but is it REALLY worth it?

29% shooting in last years playoffs.
Total of one game won by Spurs Popavich with Bonner n Fins getting plenty of minutes.

If you want I'll post Joes previous posts on Popavich.
Hmmmmn?

I'll let you know when we bounce Utah from the playoffs this year ;)

I don't get the Dennis Rodman / Ron Artest comparision outside of the fact they both have an attitude.  Rodman was at the end of his career when he went to LA (Artest is not), Rodman was a one dimensional player (Artest is not), Rodman came for attention and couldn't care less about rings at that point since he had a few (Ron also there for attention but wants a ring)

Rodman was 100% downside in LA because his skills faded by then.  The same can't be said for Artest.  So while Rodman was a 'bust' it wasn't because of his attitude but because he couldn't help the Lakers enough to beat the better teams in the conference.

If they win the title yes if they don't no.

As much as people want more than that to matter - unless we are talking convicted murderes/rapists/child molesters...whether or not a guy can help your team win is pretty much the only factor...

WK is right

Rodman knew his place on the team...Artest won't.

He's going to break the lakers and i'm going to love it.

Did Reality post something about the Spurs?

I felt a disturbance in the force of TrueSpursFans.

I haven't posted about preseason because I didn't want to offend koast with any fluff pieces.   ;)
It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave.  Keep on thinking free.

If you wrote them yourself, I'd be impressed.  Unless of course it was all in binary since you are a numbers guy.

You are not sparing me, you are sparing all of us from those pre-season pieces.  Unless of course you would like me to post up some of the HORRIBLE pre-season pieces I've read.   There is some really "awesome" ones about Kobe and the Lakers if you want me to link you.   They are all sappy and not talking about much since well, NOTHING THAT COUNTS IS GOING ON YET!!! lol

Well - While the games don't count - there are things to watch in the pre-season I would think for various teams - off the top of my head

Spurts - integrating Jefferson and making sure everyone is healthy
Flakers - teaching Ron Ron not to shoot so much as he'll break the offense
Suxxorz - new coach, new players / injured players returning, new 'point' guard...

Those are primarily the 3 teams followed here?
