Has there been any other time in the league when the 1 was so loaded up with talent that you can think of?

Currently the NBA has: Paul, Williams,  Rondo, Parker, Kidd, Nash, Davis, Billups, and Rose (in no specific order)

Let's not forget Calderon, Harris, Nelson and Mo Williams.

I didn't think about it before, but, yeah, the league does look awesome at point guard.  Even some of the benchies and less-than-elites make my list in terms of folks I really like.  And so many of them are YOUNG.

Did not mean to slight those guys.  They are very talented as well.  Alston is a talented player as well.  I think he belongs in the list.  Raw dribbling ability he is VERY talented.

The evolution of the position is interesting to me.  Nash and Kidd are more of the old school way of the point guard.  They run the offense perfectly and are mainly past first.  Chris Paul and Deron Williams are the new breed of point guard that still perform that function but are more effective scorers.

Magic, Hardaway, Kevin Johnson, Isiah, Doc, Price, Floyd, and Payton IMO would destroy those guys.

Those are just the guys off the top of my head.

Two problems mi amigo:

Magic was well on his way out during KJ's prime.  He was also long gone during Tim Hardaway's best days in Miami.

How were Isiah and Doc both point guards when they played on the same team and were both starters?  They were also gone by the time Hardaway and KJ were in their prime.

I am talking an abundance of talent all at once.  Not every point guard in the history of the NBA vs what we have in the league now.    You can't pick and choose point guards from all over.  The guys you named were not all active at the same time or were they in their prime years all at the same time.

1988-89 season top 12 in assists (one not a PG)

John Stockton (age 26)
Kevin Johnson (22)
Magic (29)
Terry Porter (25)
Sleepy Floyd (28)
Nate McMillan (24)
Isiah (27)
MJ (25)  not a PG
Mark Price (24)
Kenny Smith (23)
Muggsy Bogues (24)
Mark Jackson (23)
(Derek Harper was 27 and finished 14th, Fat Leaver was 28 and finished 15, Mo Cheeks was 32 and finished 16th, Doc Rivers was 27 and finished 17th)

Not one of the top 12 was yet 30.  Three Hall of Famers, not including MJ.  Is it substantially better than the group we have today?  No way.  Today we have 2 for sure Hall of Famers in Kidd and Nash, and 2 more highly probable Hall-of-Famers (Paul and Billups), and 4 more potential multiple all-stars (Williams, Rondo, Parker, and Rose).  Today's group is every bit as good if not better.
A third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. A second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. A first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking.

A quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself.

Parker just as good if not better then CP3 and Billups.

He's done it all under a Popazit offense.  Look at his scoring stats when he had to step up in GNobs absense and Timmy Duncars injury.

For that matter 2007 Finals.

Thanks for pointing out that wk doesn't know squat and is a fool for questioning my b-ball knowledge and thanks for pointing out my idiotic omission of Stockton.

FYI,

The Pistons and Hawks were NOT the same team.  WTF Doc are you thinking of?

Rivers.

Props as usually Zigs.  I knew someone would be able to bring up a solid argument against what I was saying.
