Let's face it, it's been an up and down season....however, through all their peaks and valleys this team has shown that they can do two things consistently. Two things fans can almost depend on whether they like it or not. Two things they display like no other NBA team can...
1. Run
2. Lose games in the final seconds
Now, I'm a realist... I understand that tonight's final play took more than an answered prayer to defy the odds of the Nets ending their 5 game skid. Whether or not the final result is unjust, it simply wouldn't be our style to win that game.
It was an incredible shot (whether he got it off in 1.8 seconds or not), and albeit painful, it happened. For the most part, we're accountable for these excruciating losses due to our endless communication/defensive breakdowns, growing pains, or whatever you want to call it. Tonight was a little different. You'd think that we've paid our dues and served our time for the season.. enough to warrant some good final sequence karma. 94 feet, no time outs, 1.8 seconds, some good defense, and 3 points later I learned that I was wrong. Having been a 76er fan for eons, I can't remember a season with such an abundance of knife twisting defeats. I'm not talking about tough losses, I'm talking about the ones that plague us as die hard fans for days at a time. The ones that make good wins feel great having so frequently been in the trenches of disappointment that haunts us in every close game we witness. As die hard 76er fans, we can only hope to reflect on this 08/09 season as a dark one filled with adversity and misfortunes... one that 55 games in can outline 6 shots that shrink what could have been a 33-22 record down to 27-28. Right now, it's too difficult to say which one will better resemble this team going forward, but we can only hope it's not the latter.
