Around the NBA
« on: December 19, 2008, 11:56:45 PM »
This is a thread for non-Sixer discussion.

-How about Harris dropping 41/13 on Kidd and the Mavs.  Message delivered.  The only thing Cuban is better at then giving up to soon on star PG's is insider trading.

This probably fits more in the game thread, but look at their starting lineup.  Holy cow!  They stink.  With Granger out injured and Ford just getting back from an injury, that's ugly.  They didn't have one legit starter in their starting lineup last night.

Charlotte shot 50 of 76 from the floor.  That's .658.  Only a few games after adding two new starters to the team (who needs practice.)  That's got to be close to an NBA record.  Memphis must have really been busting it on defense.

For LB, his team playing like that has to be up there right with smelling his kids- maybe even better.

Paul Milsap has been playing out of his mind in Utah with Boozer injured.  Skiles rapidly cycling minutes of players, Villanueva and Sessions barely played yesterday.  I would love to spring Sessions some how and give him a shot at being our starting PG.

If we didn't sign Brand this offseason, and we carried over our cap space into next year, he was the guy I was hoping we'd go after.  He's got a ton of talent.  It's a shame he's stuck behind Boozer.

For Utah, how much has to do with their system (and PG?)

The way the folks are talking in utah it doesn't seem like he'll be stuck behind boozer for long.

Of course at that point he'll be wanting quite a bit of money to stay in utah.

Belinelli really lighting it up in GS.  Of course knowing Nellie, that means a bunch of DNP-CD's coming up for the kid.  It seems everyone on that team can score, but no one can stay on Nellie's good side for very long.

I was a Belineli fan when he entered the league.  I wanted the Sixers to draft him.  I was sort of hoping he would go from the doghouse to the point where he would e cut, but I guess that ain't happening.

This is what I'm talking about

Quote
Harris was taken out of the game and fans expressed their appreciation for Cuban by chanting several times: Thank you, Cub-an. "That was really funny," Cuban said Sunday at the Mavericks game in Washington against the Wizards. "I thought it was hysterical." While it has become extremely popular in all parts of the NBA world to criticize Cuban and the Mavericks for trading Harris, Cuban remains steadfast in his belief that it was a good deal for Dallas. "There?s only one goal every year and that?s to win a championship," Cuban said. "And if you?re not going to win it right now, what puts your team in the best position flexibility-wise going forward? That was the question and [the trade] was the answer." Fort Worth Star-Telegram

He was defending the Kidd trade after Harris embarrassed the Mavs in New Jersey

Cuban just shouldn't comment on the trade.  Trying to defend it at this point just makes him look dumber.

Trying to defend it might be dumb - it was a dumb trade no doubt - but his rationale regarding winning a championship every year - it's one I subscribe to and why I've wanted Andre miller traded for so long :)

I hope they asked him a follow-up about Steve Nash.  That would really allow him to fully express his PG wisdom.

Give it time.  They may just be showcasing him as they talked about moving him for a big earlier this year.  I love reading GS boxscores to see how quickly players see their stars rise and fall.  One day Brandan Wright is the bomb, the next day Anthony Randolph is playing and Wright is sitting.  We get on Sam for complaining about minutes issues, but if anyone in GS complained it would be hard not to agree with them.
