Sounds like he will head back to Detroit but maybe someone unexpected will step in and have him think otherwise.

he's gotta wait 30 days to go back to detroit - and there are other teams out there that can offer him more money and possibly a better chance at a ring - boston has been mentioned as possibly interested, as has new orleans and houston which to me all have a better shot than Detroit right now.

IMO the Spurs should move on this they, another big guy to help out on our squad.  would be a decent fit with him.
On the set of Walker Texas Ranger Chuck Norris brought a dying lamb back to life by nuzzling it with his beard. As the onlookers gathered, the lamb sprang to life. Chuck Norris then roundhouse kicked it, killing it instantly. The lesson? The good Chuck giveth, and the good Chuck, he taketh away.

I think you guys have met your quoto on over the hill big men!

McDyees would be a good pick up for a lot of teams.  Hopefully he doesn't just settle with Detroit if another contender in the East wants to pick him up.

Other teams have more money and can sign him right now - if he doesn't sign within a week it probably means detroit

we got a lot of new kids this summer which is why we are doing so badly - not just because parker and manu are out - believe me, i am not a fan, but he could help our team right now.

I am just giving you a hard time.  He would be a perfection addition to the cast...........of Grumpy Old Men 4 starting himself and Kurt Thomas.

Spurs may try to add McDyess
Brak Huerta, SpursReport
Thursday, November 13, 2008

Since Antonio McDyess was waived Monday by the Denver Nuggets, the door has been opened for the Spurs to try to land the suddenly most-coveted free agent, but his return to the Pistons remains the most likely scenario.

The forward/center was one of three players sent to Denver last week in the trade between the Detroit and Denver for Allen Iverson, but he never played for the Nuggets.

After he clears waivers Wednesday, McDyess can sign immediately with any team except the Pistons.

There are reports that the Spurs are likely to join the hunt that McDyess' agent says already includes 20 teams.

Much like the Brent Barry situation last season, NBA rules say McDyess must wait 30 days before he can rejoin his former team.

Pistons president Joe Dumars and coach Michael Curry have said they want him back. And he would have an important role as the primary post threat on the second unit.

The Boston Globe has reported that the Celtics, Lakers, Cavaliers, Hornets, Raptors, Rockets, and Suns are among those interested. However, an NBA source very close to McDyess said as of yesterday he plans on returning to Detroit, and many people close to him say they'd be shocked if he went elsewhere.

"I think he's going to Detroit," said Celtics guard Sam Cassell, who is good friends with McDyess. "I know he's comfortable with Detroit. He has a place there and everything. His comfort level might be there."

NBA teams have nothing to lose by trying to change McDyess's mind. His agent, Andy Miller, said he plans to talk to his client today in hopes of getting the list of suitors down to 3-4 teams.

Miller said he had a long conversation with the 6-foot-9-inch, 240-pounder Sunday night but wasn't certain what order of importance the factors of location, money, and a contending team were.

"If he wants, he'll give me some pecking order," Miller said. "That will give me direction."

McDyess is currently at his offseason home in Houston. Cassell spoke to him on the phone Saturday, but they didn't talk about him coming to Boston.

"I just talked to him about how he was doing," said Cassell. "I didn't ask him about coming here. I didn't realize that [the Celtics] were interested in him."

The Celtics have $2.3 million remaining from their mid-level exception to offer McDyess, but the Lakers and Cavaliers can offer more than $5 million. Of course, one big draw for the Celtics is that they have a legitimate chance of repeating as NBA champions.

McDyess has never won a title.

Glimmer of Hope

The Spurs dropped to 2-5 after losing to the Bucks in Milwaukee, 82-78. The Spurs received a glimmer of hope when reports began circulating that Manu Ginobili could return to the court a little earlier than expected. Gregg Popovich declined to address it when asked to respond to the reports.

Robert Horry's Return?

Does "Big Shot Bob" have one more big shot left in him? If so, Boston Celtics point guard Sam Cassell - who played and won a ring with Horry in Houston - is making a ploy of sorts to see his next shot go down for Boston.

When asked if Horry could be wearing green, Cassell recently said "it's a possibility" and that the veteran point guard has "mentioned it to him". Maybe if Cassell keeps mentioning it, Horry might take Boston up on the offer before too long.

Beno's Career Night

Former Spur, Beno Udrih scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Kings over the Clippers in Los Angeles, 103-98. The Clippers trailed 81-69 after three quarters but could only trim seven points off their deficit before the final buzzer. Mike Dunleavy denied a report in one of the New York newspapers claiming that the Clippers and Bobcats were discussing a trade involving Chris Kaman.

Looked pretty good doing it too.

Jason Thompson is the story in SacTown, however, followed closely by Spencer Hawes. Thompson has had to play small forward the last two games with Kevin Martin out and John Salmons moving into the shooting guard spot in the starting line-up. This kid is the real deal and though a bit out of position to play the three, his size twenty feet are firmly planted under him. In 25 minutes a game, he is putting up 12 points and 7 boards while shooting just shy of 60 percent and diving all over the court. Very coachable as well, and basketball smart.  Lots of potential with this one.

Second year center Hawes continues to baffle, but in a good way. First complaining about a routine workout in the pre-season and not looking all that conditioned or coordinated for that matter, he began the season starting for Brad Miller for five games and now is the first guy off the bench. In 29 minutes a game, he is scoring 12.9 points with 7.8 rebounds a game. But most importantly, he is blocking 2.1 shots a game and THAT is a difference maker for the defensively challenged Kings. Teams are not so likely to burn up the key, at least not for several games now. Early on, it did not matter all that much since defense was horrid, but lately it has shown marked improvement not seen in these parts for years. He also has developed a little hook shot.

Thompson's fellow rookies, undrafted point guard Bobby Brown, from Cal State Fullerton, and Donte Greene, who got traded twice after being picked 28th by the Grizzlies last spring, are not playing much, though Brown gets in games for 16 minutes, but they look very intriquing none the less. Brown takes minutes away from Bobby Jackson, who at this point in his career does not mind at all, and Jackson is mentoring him all the time. Brown has a nice shot and is a true point guard and at 6'2", big enough and quick enough to handle the defensive side of things. Greene, however, may turn out to be the best of the three. He is undoubtedly a year away from when he should have opted for the NBA draft, so any playing time he gets is strictly bonus work that Theus is giving him until his defense improves. He has played in only four games for six minutes or so, but his offensive skills are there already. He has way too much athleticism and quickness for any defender he has faced so far and at 6'11" is no match for them at any rate. But he will take some time to become a defender, though when he has played, he has not gotten himself embarrassed just yet.

Then Udruh started like crap and for four games we thought the Kings had made a horrible signing in the off-season. Lately, he had gotten back into the flow of the offense and has looked better and the Kings have looked better because of it. When Martin and Francisco Garcia come back, we may actually have the start of a good team this year, but in about three years when these kids get some NBA time under them, it will be fun to watch even more.

Udrih has a lot of potential - we tried to get him to realise it - buthe seems to be finding his way with the Kings.  Don't put too much pressure o the kid before you go sending him crying...

That seems to be his biggest problem. He gets 'hurt' too much. This pre-season, it was a hip flexor. He can be very good when he plays, especially for a long series of games, but that rarely happens.

Would that be after his rookie season, where, after a decent run, you brought in Nick Van Exel to take minutes from him?

Udrih never got a serious look from the Spurs in any sort of offensive role.  His role was to put the ball in the hands of Ginobilli or Duncan and get out of the way.  Had the Spurs ever looked to INCORPORATE him, they'd have been far better off.

Are you KIDDING?!  Pop gave this kid as much of a chance as he gave Tony, Beno froze at times which is why the Spurs had to look for help as a serious back up to Tony.  Pop gave him ample time develop and catch on.  If it was not his failure to be confident enough in himself and his abilities, it was an injury, and this happenned too often with him, bad luck, bad timed injuries, finally stating he was gonna pick up his game too late, the Spurs let him go.  Like I said, the Spurs did what they could to get this kid to play at a pro level, his only obstacle was himself.
