October and November are the months the card companies give offers en masse, trying to trap people for the pagandays, i mean holidays.
You no doubt also got offers for balance transfers at 0%. Usually you are offered a year at 0%, then it transfers to a percentage after one year.
Pay all on time and next Oct/Nov you will be given another 0% offer. I just keep transferring them. Haven't paid a percentage in 6 years. Its like having a credit card that acts as a debit card. If you have debt on a sucky percentage card, or for that matter any card over 3.9%, by all means transfer the balance to the 0% card. As for the balance transfer fee, 3% with a max of ususally $99, sweet talk the rep into waiving the fee. Call me up if you want, I'll conference call and show you how to do it. I think these are great and you should be all over them, but yes temptation is great and avoid them if the cookie looks too good. If the envelope says "preapproved", you are usually golden. "Prequalified" you basically should trash it.
Also ask if a "hard inquiry" or a "soft in house inquiry" will be made for your credit card approval. Hard means a credit check with the 3 idiot beuareaus (sp) and will lower your FICO as much as 1 point per inquiry.
