So, it's not her fault, it's theirs.

Again, personal responsibility
I see you read her article.  Like the part where she stayed at the same few tables for 5 straight days, the staff gave her candy bars and orange juice to keep going.  She brushed her teeth at the table.  They limoed her around in this condition.  Her parants came to pick up her up to get her into rehab.  Seeing her parants at the door, the order was given to shuffle her away from them to the other side of the casino.

No the casinos share none of the blame.

good God. ::)

So that part where you stated you weren't picking sides was..........a lie?

Or are you just arguing her case because no one around here buys into her lack of personal responsibility to just get up and walk out? The Casinos always take care of their big gamblers. The issue is whether the 'big gambler' can afford the losses. Its like sueing the homeless person because your husband gave him the grocery money for the month. Not that a homeless person is in the same realm as the wealthy casinos, but then, why sue someone with no money.

And that part where she does not want any money? She is a lawyer in a law firm that specializes in lawsuits and litigation. The publicity alone is worth millions to her.

JoldMal,

What have you heard about the Kings also wanted to shed Millers contract?  Rumors about Dallas packaging Josh Howard and "others" for an Artest/Miller/Garcia? package?  Brad and Kenny's contracts are both supposed to be high on the list of things the Kings want to get rid of but I think this may be a case of some blogger or bbs'ers ramblings being picked up by a sports web site or two.

On a side note, I've been reading some stories on Hoopsworld and I swear some ebonics flunkie is thier editor.  I've never seen so many obvious mistakes in grammar/spelling across so many stories from one website.

You know it's saying something when someone like me picks up on so many grammar/spelling mistakes.

"Take care of them" how?  Sure maybe the billionaires they make sure not to clean them out.
But the millionaires?  They'll take every cent from them.  How about Chuck Barkley.  Did the district attourney/casino puppett really need to file suit and go public?

Money that could go back to clients she scammed.

You guys are casino suck ups, assigning them zero responsibility?

Do i think it's morally reprehensible that the casinos take advantage of a persons gambling problem?  Maybe, maybe not...like I said, I deal with my own issues of addiction and don't blame anyone else (except my fathers genetics) for the issues...do i think they are LEGALLY responsible to tell a gambler to stop playing you are losing too much money?  Nope, not in the slightest, this is a legal argument, and comparing it to a bar and a drunk driver is really a pathetic shame of an argument.  I have been to las vegas once, and i played for about 14 straight hours, black jack only and only ended up down a little.

If you KNOW you don't have the capability to stop when you are down too much (or up too much) then you shouldn't go to the casinos in the first place...if you lack the free will to control your own decisions, signa  POA over to someone else who will be more responsible for your life than you are, but PLEASE don't blame the giant corporation with big pockets for your illness.

She fell asleep at the table, she played for 5 straight days, but never ONCE does the casino prevent her from leaving physcially or threaten her person...she CHOSE.

You wanna see an addict who is a 'successful' gambler, check out mike matusow on the WSOP...dude wins a million dollars in the main event, a couple weeks later in the 'tournament of champions' he's already lost that million dollars...been in rehab a couple times, he doesn't blame anyone for his losses cause he accepts what he is (or so it seems)...this woman knows she's an addict and blames other people for it (and the wrong people)

Gambling is not illegal, the casino did not facilitate her breaking of any laws (like the bartender who knowingly lets a drunk leave with his car keys).  God I hate agreeing with a genreally republican idea, but this woman has NO ONE TO BLAME but her self...the casino is there to take her money, it's capitalism it's why they exist, if she wants to keep giving it to them, they'll keep taking it...there's no LAWS being broken and as far as reponsibility...again, she had more than amble opportunity before entering the casino to deal with her obvious addiction and weak will issues.

I don't really get how you can be so reactionary about some things and not others...

WhoreOutWest,

The Kings definitely want out from under Kenny Thomas' contract. Miller, I think, has two years left on his. I would have agreed with you that his time with the Kings was about up two years ago. Then Brad decided he was not done yet and went on some kind of health and exercise kick last summer and continues to do today. With the size of his contract, he surprised my by not letting up and just sitting on all that money. He decided to earn it, which he did last season. Of course, his off-court choices are kind of undermining all that good will, but then, Brad's bulb dims out once in a while. I hope the Kings keep him around for at least one more year to help Spencer Hawes learn the NBA game. Hawes' talents are surprisingly similar to Millers.

So I would not buy into the Kings being interested in moving Miller just yet. Garcia is a different matter. It is possible that Petrie would trade the talented fourth year player if he got the right pieces back in the deal. Josh Howard is the right piece.

I can not get around the fact that people who end up making bad choices, at least in THIS country, are constantly looking to blame others, through litigation, for their own mistakes.

While the casinos live off of people like this lawyer, and even nurture their addictions, as long as they are not physically going to their homes, kidnapping them, and forcing them to extract money from their own accounts to gamble, then making a gambling table comfy for someone needing a nap, just does not equate, to me at least, with the casino forcing them to sleep there in the first place.
