At the end of the day the owner can say anything he wants about the team, it's his team.

Really?  I didn't know it was their team...I said BETTER owners...bad owners are guys who think they know more than they do, or push their noses in when they shouldn't...like snyder with the redskins, or you can have bad owners who are too loyal, like dolan and snider of the sixers so it takes longer to do what everyone knows you need to do.

And don't get me started on the evils of 'corporate' ownership

The Maloofs are an interesting bunch. The entire family is involved in the ownership. They will solicit the opinions of all four brothers and the mother before making a major change, as they did when they parted ways with Rick Adelman.

They are also obstinate, opinionated, outgoing, media-friendly, civic-minded, free-spending followed by penny-pinching, owners who are making a ton of money off of a small market basketball team, while telling one and all they are committed to keeping the team in Sacramento, but insist the city pay for their new arena, which few municipalities in California can manage. In Sacramento's case, the city tried to get the other local communities on board with solving the arena issue, but was turned down flat - no available money anyway.

Then Stern steps in, saying the NBA is completely committed to keeping Sacramento in the League (and, no doubt, Las Vegas OUT), so sends his best fiscal mind to SacTown to work out a deal between all parties. Turns out, Cal Expo, the huge state fair that is located here, along the American River, needs to upgrade its facilities and has lots of land in which to do it. Looks like a deal to build a new arena on these state-owned lands that would be used by the fairgrounds to book other acts is now in the works.

And one of the key reasons is that the Maloofs were not part of the negotiations. Seems that once they get burned (the Webber contract and subsequent trade; the city sponsored proposition the local voters turned down that would have put the arena in downtown and the Maloofs very publically supported), they clam up about the issue and do the opposite of what they did before. No more big contracts and luxury tax issues, no more public comments about the arena issue.

Interesting bunch of owners.

They're like the baldwins, but with more talent in their field than the baldwins have in theirs.

Then again, when they allowed a season of real world to be filmed in one of their hotels i think i lost like 80% of the respect i had for them

The Baldwins have one brother with talent, while the Maloofs all have specialties, it seems.

I agree about the reality show nonsense, however.

You lost respect for them because they decided to let MTV promote the Palms for them?!

I dont get why you would lose respect for them based on a reality tv show rather then all the money they've taken out of the mouths of children and families cuz of people's gambling habits lol

The Maloofs didn't invent vegas or gambling...i don't blame tobacco companies if people choose to smoke, by now you know the dangers of smoking, or gambling, and you're a human being with free will so if you choose to shorten your life by smoking cigarettes, or you choose to waste your income gambling in vegas, that's your own choice...no ones FORCING you to gamble, and don't give me 'addiction' - i have addiction issues - i deal with them - i didn't need any 12 step program, i recognized my problems and made corrections to my behavior to prevent them....

I realize in the united states it's always someone elses fault - but at some point personal responsibility matters.

PS - which baldwin has talent?

PPS - you didn't tell me what color the sky was?

Which one is Alex?  He must not have been in any movies.

Alec Baldwin however is not actually the most talented Baldwin any more than marky mark is the most talented wahlberg, popularity doesn't equal talent. (though if i had to pick on of the crazy repressed nut jobs to be the most talented, the dude who was on homicide LOTS and i think is on dirty sexy money would get my vote...but hopefully that's not the same as the religious zealot one?)

When I look up i see the ceiling, is the sky the same color as the ceiling?

They also didn't invent reality tv or girls being slutty!

Isn't it your choice to watch the Real World or not?  I hardly see how having a reality tv show at their casino makes you lose respect for them.

As for the summer league play, Jason Thompson, who was called a "reach" by the basketball pundits when Petrie drafted him out of Rider University at #12 last month, is showing he belongs in the NBA. Whether he will be an "elite" power forward is unclear. But he is big, fast, strong, and athletic. That gives the Kings something to work with there. He also is coachable, and has the desire. He came to the NBA as a senior out of college, which for some reason has become something of a negative knock on rookies, like they must not be very good if they stayed in college for four years to get a stupid degree. All three of the Kings' picks this year are therefore stupid and questionable NBA talents.

Sean Singletary, the King's first of two second round picks, is a point guard who averaged 19 points and 5 assists as a senior at Virginia. He looks pretty good at the summer league play also and will back up Beno Udrih at the point this season.

I watched the Blazer v Kings summer league game.  I knew absolutely nothing of Jason Thompson, and I have to admit that he actually looked pretty good, at least from the perspective of summer league.  He is a PF, scored well, rebounded fine, and played fine the defensive end.

I knew a little more of Sean Singletary, and I liked what I saw as well.  He was slighter of build than I remember, and he obviously has a ways to go, but I think he can play in the league.

A quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself.

I'm not choosing sides but very interesting lawsuit about ready to be ruled upon.
Do casinos share the blame and responsibility for aiding and abbetting (no pun intended) known compulsive problem gamblers?
http://www.mycasinolawsuit.com/arelias_story

Please people, before attacking her, notice why she is suing the casinos.  It is not to recoup her money.  It is to hold them responsible to the extent they are. -judgement call.

My guess is the mob and corporate demons who co-own the casinos have threatened the life the of the judge and his relatives going to 53rd cousin 47 million times over.  Rule we are zero percent to blame -or else!

So, it's not her fault, it's theirs.

Again, personal responsibility
