There's no doubt in my mind that he wants to go to LA. Brand might re-sign there and LA could still offer Davis a deal starting at $10MIL per year. Does anyone think Davis ends up with a team not in California??

Another SAS report... Smith is stating that Davis will go where the money is but that he would prefer to get his money and play for the Knicks. Apparently the lure of NYC and D'Antoni is enough to make the man come East. Again though... this is a SAS report.

I can't imagine the Knicks giving him a long-term, big money deal when they are trying to clear the decks for 2010.  No way GS takes back someone like Zach when they need room to sign their own young guys. And what does Davis do for NY in the short term, make them less sucky?  The deal, if any, would have to match salaries.  It would make no sense for either team really.  I could respect Davis looking to hook up with Brand in LA, it would be a good fit and they could have a good team, but if he some how goes to NYK for pure monetary reasons just to lose and lose some more, I would lose all respect for him.  Of course, this is a SAS rumor so it is highly (in)credible.

Baron Davis says clips are possibilty, and contributes to the internet causing the death of the english language

Quote
In his first public statement on his unexpected foray into free agency, Baron Davis acknowledged Tuesday that he is considering a free-agent move to his hometown Los Angeles Clippers but insisted that his preference remains staying with the Golden State Warriors.

Communicating with ESPN.com's J.A. Adande via e-mail, Davis wrote: "Clipps r possible. G State is where I wanna b."

No, only RFAs have holds.  Opt out guys are UFAs.

I thought the same thing but was corrected at realgm.

Apparently you can't use their cap space unless you renounce your Bird rights- so they do have cap holds.

Who would have thunk that the big winner in the FA sweepstakes could end up being the Clips?

Swapping out Maggette for Baron would be a huge upgrade.  Not to mention they picked up Gordon and Jordan in the draft.

They could go from the basement to contenders in 2-3 years if Gordon and Gordon and Thornton pan out.

And if baron davis doesn't, you know, age...and stays healthy

New Orleans
Los ANgeles
Portland
Utah

I still don't see the clippers getting as good as those four in the next 2-3 years

I'm fairly certain they do have cap holds.  Holds are "restricted" (pun intended) to only restricted free agents, but include guys with bird years.
