Camby of the Nuggets named Defensive Player of the Year
« on: April 27, 2007, 07:20:31 PM »
Surprised?  Didn't really think much about it, there haven't been many names to talk about since Wallace and Artest fell from grace.

One of the worst defenders to ever win the award IMO.  I would classify Camby as a "good" defender.  Not even very good.

And Bowen finishes runner up for the 3rd year in a row with less than half the votes Camby got.  THAT is a real injustice.

Camby is a monster weakside defender but you notice that the defensive player of the year DOES NOT guard the other teams best post threat.  Really cheapens the award in my eyes.
It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave.  Keep on thinking free.

He got the award based on statistics.  Blocked shots and Steals.

What Bowen does is much harder, actually guarding a player, but Camby is a stat machine, and he has been effective as a rebounder against the Nuggets.

Camby is great at blocking shots but if he was as good of a defender as the award makes it seem then why is the Denver defense not that great?  I don't even think his one on one post defense is even that good.

100% agree, Camby got it on stats.

Poor Bowen, but what a classy interview during the game.
