Trivia Q. Best 5 year NBA record
« on: February 27, 2007, 12:29:02 PM »
*reg season records only (and adding postseason i don't think would matter.)
Was it the Boston Celtics in the era of best ball played ever?
Was it the Chicago Bulls with three 67+ win seasons?
Was it the L.A. Lakers after Lenny Bias tragic death propelled them in the Dark era?
Was it the Milwaukee Bucks with Kareem in the free love era of 69-74?
Was it Shaq Kobe PhilJ in the new millenium?
Was it the Adleman Kings?
Red Auerback Celts?
Wilt the Stilt Sixers?
Shawn Kemp-Gary Payton Sonics?

I'll say The Chicago Bulls...

You know that because of the original poster that the answer is the Spurs.
It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave.  Keep on thinking free.

Wrong and wrong.
The Bulls went so far south without Jordan/PhilJ the year after the second 3 peat it nuked any chances.   For that matter the 1995 retirement/hide from gambling year the Bulls only won 47.

Spurs from 2002-2006 won 297 games and only two titles.  Homer, with the lineup the Spurs had/have Pop still does not even crack the top 10.

I wanted to say the Celts with Bill Russel/Bob Cousy but I didn't think there was enough teams in the league to have their numbers match up with some of the others.

Here is my second crack...Wilt with the Sixers

Probably Dr. J's 76'ers who posted great record year after year, but couldn't get it done until Moses led them to the promised land.

Not the Wilt Sixers.  1965 and 1970 killed them at both ends.  Plus they traded Wilt after blowing a 3-1 lead over the Celts in 1968.
Most lopsided trade in history was not Shaq to Miami, it's Wilt to the Lakers.
Not the Dr J. Sixers.  Acquired Dr J and won 55 games in '77-78.  1978-79 dropped to 47 wins.  What happened?  Had a great 4 year run but in 1983-4 they fell to 50 wins.
Neither 6er runs crack the top 15.

10th 1959-64 Boston Celtics 293 101 74.3% 5 Titles
11th 1960-65 Boston Celtics 296 103 74.2 5 Titles

Nope.  Wilt was injured almost the entire 1970-1 season.  Only won 40 games.  Wilt bailed after 1973.

Celtics from 81-82 thru 85-86 seasons.  Won 311 out of 410 possible games for a .759 winning percentage.

I was begining to worry.
Very happy to see a boardie come up with the Greatest Team in modern era (1970 onward) and perhaps all time.

2 Championships, injury to Nate "Tiny" Archibald in the second round derailed the 1982 Celts and Mitch Kupkakes disgusting cheapshot of Bob Parish preventing the 1985 back to backer and '86 Threepeat.

Greatest frontline in NBA history.  Bird-Bob Parish-McHale.

HOFer Dennis Johnson at the point and true lockdown D.

Corny Maxwell and Billy Walton providing the best 6th men role ever along with supersub Jerry Schichting.

Nonetheless that Celtic team got creamed by the 76'ers as did the Lakers.

A real shame the Sixers didn't get Malone earlier, then Phila. could have had the dynasty.

Boston might have won a few more if they didn't have to go through Phila. on the way to LA.

Oh yeah i consider the Celts-Philly to be the best of the best.
LA had such a cakewalk with the historically weakest West ever it was a shame.
I thought Sixer coach completely misused Chocolate Thunder or the other two blights could have been averted.
Props to Magic for that dream game 6 tho.

RT, after leading the 76ers to the Finals vs Portland in 77, what happened to the Sixers the next two years.
Specifically the 2nd year, 1978-79.  Only 47 wins.
Did Dr J have an operation that year?

That was the year of the SuperDooper Sonics.

Ditto 84 playoffs.  Ousted in Round 1 by Jersey, only went 50-32 in reg season.  What happened.
85 Playoffs Barkely and Malone for 1 season only.  Wow.
