David King: But could Oberto have beaten 2005 USC?

Web Posted: 03/24/2006 12:00 AM CST

San Antonio Express-News

The lads at ProjectSpurs.com are at it again, and this time you don't even need your computer's speakers to join the fun.

Much creative energy has been expended lately on the Spurs fan Web site on what has blossomed into an eight-posting tribute to Fabricio Oberto.

Oberto, the shaggy-haired, lesser-used Argentine member of the team, is developing a reputation around the league and among the bloggers, at least if you look at the items listed under "Little Known Oberto Facts," parts I-VIII.

Among the choicest of the postings:

"Oberto doesn't lift weights. His muscles sense Oberto in a gym and get huge!"

"When Bobby Knight gets mad, he tosses chairs on the court. When Oberto gets mad, chairs toss themselves."

"Ever since Oberto was born, Argentina experienced a huge increase in dunk-related injuries."

"The NBA is considering renaming 'flagrant fouls' to 'Oberto Fouls'!"

"When Oberto fouls another player, he doesn't consider it a foul if the player survives!"

"Once Oberto jumped from a plane ... thus the end of the dinosaurs."

You get the idea ... eight postings with this kind of stuff. Good stuff, especially considering that one national writer observed that the Spurs look kind of bored lately. Somebody needs to encourage these guys to keep it up. Also, this is the best place for Fab facts since calling up FabriOberto.com produces this message: Disculpe las molestias, estamos actualizando el sitio fabrioberto.com (essentially, sorry, under re-construction), leading to the potential for another posting:

"When Oberto's Web site goes down, the entire Internet goes down!"

Or something to that effect.

It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave.  Keep on thinking free.

Can't we just send the guy to Duke, so that that way, it's okay for everyone to be sick of him?
