Hey you Christians! Got a question...

Howdy. Born and raised Catholic, recently went to an Assembly of God service, and enjoyed it. Music rocked, huge band, horn section, my kids were BEGGING to go to church next week rather than dreading it, which in itself is a miracle!

Told my Catholic mom what I did, she hit the roof and hung on me. How dare I go to a non-catholic church she said.  Figured I will start going there if I enjoy it, and just incorporate the parts that I like about Catholism, and just incorporate my personal beliefs into this service.  Tune out the rest of the fire and brimstone exclusionary stuff.

 My question to you is...Anybody know anything about Assemby of God? Is it non-denominational?

Assembly of God, to my understanding, *IS* a demonination, much like Baptist, Pentecostal, Church of Christ, Lutheran, or Presbyterian.

Assembly of God is a denomination -- their headquarters is fairly close to me (Springfield, MO).  

Assembly of God would be considered a "protestant" religion.  The belief Jesus is the Christ -- that eternal life comes from him.  

Some differences from Catholicism:
1)  They don't believe in transubstantiation (the wafer and wine turning into the literal body and blood of Jesus)
2)  They believe that one can lose their salvation (but be saved again).
3)  They are considered "pentecostal" or "charismatic" as they practice the "gifts of the Holy Spirit" -- i.e. speaking in tongues, healing (laying on hands for this purpose), etc.

If you have specific questions, I can answer some of them -- I have studied the rise of religions in the US and Europe so am a bit familiar with them.

Never heard of it myself, but atleast your kids WANT to go, that's a pretty tough thing to do.  let me know how it goes.... and if they start talking about the annual "lets go wait for the mothership" party and advertise "one time use space kool aid" I would suggest you stay away at that point...

Not familiar with them either.  My fav christian group is Calvary Chappel.  They seem to be the ONLY sane christian in my region.
