McNabb - Vick

[Reality]

It kind of fizzed due to McNabbs injury.  He didn't run once.

4th quarter that 3rd and long lob to Westbrook that just missed.   The way Westbrook was catching passes i thought he would haul that one in too.

ATLs coach was too conservative with play calling.  Let Vick get outside the hash marks and scamper.  11 TDs 1 Int outside.  23 and 22 inside.

Speedy Gonzales run up the middle late 4th was sweet.  But Philly still got the ball back many times in that last 8 min of the 4th.  Couldn't convert, you could tell McNabb was injured.  See the dt that nailed him got a fine for helmet use, altho he is appealing.

Props nonetheless to the db guarding MotorMouth, or is it now Silent Treatment?  While he still got 9 or so catches for 100+ yards they threw it at him like 20 times.  Esp on the final series that db had him covered.

The Falcons dominated the lines.  Eagles couldn't run or protect McNabb.  The Eagles may have miscalculated and let too many linemen go.

The loss of Trotter was a real blow to the Eagles defense, the Falcons were able to jump on them early, and the Eagles couldn't move the ball with any consitency.

It's early in the season, so the Eagles have a chance to deal with these flaws.  IMO, McNabb is still the better QB, but without any time to operate he can't be effective.

Throughout their rise to the top the Eagles have been able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.  The teams that are able to contest with them there are the teams that can beat them.  That includes the Steelers, Patriots and now apparently the Falcons.

Week 2 always tells a lot more.

Who is the backup for McNabb this year?  I know McNabb is going with a chest brace at Frisco.

Chiefs for real on D?  Who knows, Jets fumbled like 6 times.
Chargers choking off the game in the last 4 minutes. :nonono:
Lou Saban truly got em going in Miami or just a one game fluke?
Redskins ever going to get an offense this year?

The backups are Koy Detmer and Mike McMahon.  Detmer has been around for a while, and Mike came from somewhere else.  

Detmer did not look good in the preseason, and although part of that is that he was playing with the second string.

I allways thought that Koy was a decent QB,  good abilty to look down the field make rapid decisons and make plays.  But with McNabb in front, his role was strictly as a backup.  Reid should have put Detmer in agaisnt Atlanta after McNabb got hit.  It was a mistake not to.   Either Koy's skills have atrophied, or he just hasn't gotten enough snaps with the good players to stay sharp.

It's a moot point, since Donovan will start against the Niners.

So much for an injured McNabb.  
Loved it when the db flattened Me-O in the 1st qtr.  But it didnt slow Owens down.
Eagles D line was good and 49ers pass d is pourus.

Chiefs got one out of the black hole along with plenty of Raider mistakes.  I'll take it.  How sweet is it seeing a team with Randy Moss, Warren Fatt and Charles Woodson get punked.

Pats mistake free play came to an ugly halt.  Carolinas D rocked.  Actually Carolina is the team that gave the biggest gift in the Delhomme interception.  That was Neal Odonell super bowl bad.  But Carolina D came back and stripped Tom Brady.  Might have had his arm moving fwd but oh well...

ATL couldn't quite complete the comeback.  Vicks leg is a problem again.

Pitts still looks strong.

San Diego Brees blew it.  D and esp run D of the Chargers is amoung leagues best.  Should have simply rode them with the 14-3 lead.  Instead he gets picked and returned for the TD.  Changed the whole game.

Yes I meant run D is great.  

With Shot calling the shots, and not calling the shots, concur they will never go anywhere then topping off at a 1st round and out, and that was done last year so....

His in game adjustments simply do not exist.  So obvious Denver was rushing the kitchen sink in the second half yesterday.  Do little doink passes to the tight end and screens.  Martyball = boringball.
