SpurX3,
I really didn't mean to infer that I think we did enough to save lives -- I guess my struggle came with people who sat back and waited for people to save them rather than acting on their own to save themselves and others. I have a VERY difficult time with this whole nursing home thing -- personally, if I owned that nursing home or I was the administrator, I'M going to take responsibility for them. Someone SHOULD have taken responsibility for them -- unfortunately, our government is notorious for red tape and moving slowly -- if you want to move fast, you work on the lowest rung possible.
You can't move national guard troops into a state BEFORE the governor requests -- that request should have come BEFORE Katrina hit. But I guess my response comes from failing to comprehend that someone didn't do everything they could to help those people in the nursing home.
Perhaps I'm just looking at it wierd. These people, unfortunately, have become the victims, IMO, of politics -- because everyone screamed about NO -- that's where all the help went (well, at least the help FEMA and the government is providing). There are others who are trying to help smaller communities get back on their feet.
