It wouldn't kill me if Bush didn't get re-elected, but if that did happen, I would hope the Republicans could hold on to Congress because I don't want Kerry to have a free hand. If Bush does win, I hope the Democrats gain some ground in Congress, because although I agree with most of his version of conservative politics, I think Bush needs a leash. In the last two decades, many our country's best years have come when one governing body could check and balance the other. Any opinions on that?
This was my biggest concern/complaint about the last congressional election.  To give the same party control over all branches of govt is scary.  And the Republicans do control the judiciary at this point....they control nominations (President) & approvals (Congress).  And that could end up being the worst legacy that GW will leave us.....

If you want judge what Jesus taught about women, read what Jesus says in Matthew 5:8, Mark Chapter 10, Luke 7, or especially John chapter 8. If some people claim to follow Jesus and yet act against his teachings, is it his fault?

So many people quote the tenets of Old Mosaic Law to make the Bible and God and Christianity look harsh, uncaring, or unbelievable, but then ignore the beauty and love in Jesus' teachings. Christ fulfilled the old law, and ushered in a new, higher law. It's not his fault people have screwed things up.

Colossians 3:18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

Titus2:3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

Submit/Teach?  Again with the second class citizens in the eye's of the lord.  This lays the foundation for similar acts that are commited by the Taliban/Muslim nuts out there.  It's there waiting from some nuts to take to the next level.  The words of the Koran are just as innocuos but that didn't stop them.

Colossians 3:19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

At least we don't have to submit.  Again, just laying the foundation for misinterpretation.

Colossians 3:22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.

Titus2:9 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10 and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.

Slaves?  Are you f#ck&n kidding me?  Do I even need to continue?

Well, you can take some comfort in the fact that Democrats have outed the candidates that really concerned them, even if their actual credentials as a judge were the best (Estrada). That's why we have Congress. I suspect that the aftermath of Bush's judicial nominating will be about as partisan as Clinton's was. It usually balances out in the end.

Actually, this Congress dosen't bother me as much as the "Christian Coalition" and the whole contract with America thing.  Such hipocrites, in the end, Mr. Gingrich was having an affair on his wife TOO, several other intern stories came out, Washington is just full of hypocrites.  It does amaze me the amount of influence the Shrub has on this Congress. Don't think thier all bad though. Would want them to stay if we had a demo prez.

"As is fitting in the Lord."

You're right it's open to interpretation. If a Christian man interprets it to be "fitting in the Lord" to beat the hell out of his wife or to dominate her with mental abuse, then do you think he really understands what is "fitting in the Lord"?

The scriptures about slaves are also open to interpretation. You can automatically assume that because Paul doesn't tell them to rise up and take freedom that he is supporting slavery. If that's what you want to see, then I can see how it wouldn't be hard to come to that conclusion. Again, open to interpretation, to you too. Slavery was a social reality in the first century. Paul isn't saying slavery is okay here; he's teaching slaves who believe in Christ how to deal with being slaves. Acting as any Christian should, slaves can make the teaching about Christ attractive. That's what Paul is saying.

If you want to know what Paul thinks about slavery, read Philemon. He tells Philemon to receive Onesimus (who is Philemon's runaway slave) "not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more to thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?" If Paul was thinking slavery was all good, why not just tell Philemon to whip the hell out of his runaway slave? Or even kill him as was the custom for runaway slaves then?

Please . . . continue.

Agreed. This Congress is much better than Newt's Congress, although that Congress did play a big part in balancing the budget. Newt was a big disappointment to us conservatives. I'm also comforted that the conservatives in this Congress are starting to get pissed about spending. Hopefully, they'll take their nuts out of the Pres' European Carry-all pretty soon.

Ephesians 5:21-25 helps clarify the Colossians passage for you, WOW.

"Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it"

Perhaps that helps with the understanding of what submission is.  I don't think that Americans like the term but both the husband and the wife are called to submission -- but as I often say "I will never be able to treat my wife like the queen (which is truly what she deserves) if I consider myself the King."  It's all about the attitude, IMO.

Continue? Why?  I've made my point.  The bible can lay the same foundation as the Koran.  There are groups like the Taliban because of  those foundations not because one religion is better or more civil than the other.  I guess we've all forgotten the attrocities commited in the name of Christ?

Just try to remember that those atrocities are committed by people; they are not Christ's.

You and I actually have similar views on the Bible, WoW. I'll send you a short email to explain.
