Clemons in coma
« on: August 08, 2005, 10:16:49 PM »
zig,

I know you are following Roger Clemons stats.
He is now officially in a coma IMO.  Road coma for sure.

Santana finally came out of his, still doing well.

zig where are you?

The coma continues big time.
Clemens has allowed just three earned runs on the road in 73 innings this season, lowering his road ERA to 0.38.[/size]

Doing okay at home also.  Today 8IP 2 hits 0 runs.
HOUSTON August 13th Satarday (AP) -- When Roger Clemens' body gave out, so did the Houston Astros.

Clemens was foiled again by a lack of run support and his ailing back, and Jack Wilson homered off Brad Lidge in the ninth inning to give the Pittsburgh Pirates a 1-0 victory Saturday night over the Houston Astros.

Clemens allowed two hits in eight shutout innings, lowering his major league-leading ERA to an incredible 1.32. He struck out nine and walked none, but the Astros couldn't muster any offense against Kip Wells and two relievers.

Clemens said his back -- which he said he injured while moving furniture at his home in late July -- prevented him from coming out for the ninth inning.

Clemens is 8-1 since May and has allowed just 13 earned runs during that span.

Been out of town.

The season Clemons is having can only be described as incredible.  His ERA of 1.32 is perhaps the best pitching performance over an entire season ever.  Gibson had a 1.12, in the year of the pitcher, and the mound was lowered as a result.  Clemens is doing it in a hitters dominated era.  It is interesting that he is doing it in the year after steroid testing became manditory.  Makes one wonder what he would have done the last 10 years, if steroids hadn't been so widespread.
Looks like Houston will be in the playoffs.  Oswalt, and Pettitte have been pitching lights out as well.

Looks like the Pedro signing was a smart one for Omar Minaya.  He has a better WHIP, K/BB, more K's, and more wins than Clemons.

Chris Carpenter has also been a STUD.  17-4, 2.25 ERA, .98 WHIP, 4.33 K/BB.  This will be a very interesting Cy Young voting in the NL.  There are 3 deserving winners in the NL.

Interesting to note as well, as much as everybody talks about the dominance of the AL, of the 6 best hitters in baseball, 4 are in the NL (Lee, Pujols, Cabrera, and Abreu), and only 2 are in the AL (ARod, and Vlad).
A third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. A second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. A first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking.

A quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself.
