It is still a beta but i downloaded this and was pretty impressed for it being free and all.
http://earth.google.com/download and run the program, you can zoom into most cities and get a good SAT photo from about 1000 ft in most places, click, on dining to see eateries listed on the SAT photo, it will show roads, lodging, etc too. also seems to have some other nifty things to point out on it as well, but I checked out rome and got a cool overhead photo with street names on it. It still needs work of course, but it is pretty fun. If you try it out let me know what you think about it.
