Where is the hoopla for what Miami is doing?

They have won 14 of their last 16 games (those two games were OT loses to Chicago and Indy WITHOUT Shaq) and are currently the hottest team in the league.  One of the teams they beat during this streak is the SA Spurs (neither team had players out due to injury).

You DO have to admire what Wade and Shaq and doing -- not to mention the way Miami has added to it's roster to prepare for the playoffs.  IMO, they are the favorites in the East (umm, Ben Wallace should expect some big time revenge in the playoffs this year).

I was getting geeked about a Pistons-Heat showdown, but then the Pistons misfired 3Xs.

The win over SAS was big.  Prior to that they were merely 500 vs the West.  Still just above 500 vs West but...

When do they play Phx, or Det again?
Zo's backing up Shraq could indeed be a key.

I'll get excited as soon as the Miami fans do.  I'm still seeing a LOT of empty seats down there.  And how about Jimmy Buffet making another drunken foray onto the court?  :cheers:

Like I said, the Heat scare me coming out of the East, Shaq is always a problem, but then you got a young hungry player like Wade having an excellent season, and they add a tough back up center like mourning and these guys are really something to think about for ANY team in the playoffs.  I really like what the Heat have done this year.  If the Spurs do make it to the finals to face this team, there IS a very real chance the Heat could win the series against us.  the Heat are the type of team to bump you on defense and wear you down, and yet they are still able shoot the rock well enough to get the job done on O - in short, I consider them the Eastern Conference Spurs.  tough and will grind the game out if need be.  I see them as the team going to the finals to represent the East.

Probably because there are no Heat fans on this board, and no one watched them regualarly.

Watched them last night and they look good.  Shaq is leaner and looking good.  He is not obese, and if the AMA thinks so, they've changed the definition to something unjustifiable.

Wade is truly a great player, and between he and Shaq they should take the East and possibly the league.  We'll have to see what happens when both Miami and SA are healthy when they meet.

The Spurs are only favorites by default, as the other contenders haven't established themselves as being legitimate.  Both the Sonics and Suns are young and uproven.  They also rely to a great extent on outside shooting, and no team in the NBA has won a championship with outside shooting (although the Bulls did a lot of that)

The teams with the dominant centers win, and that means Shaq and Duncan.  Not Wallace or any of the other pretenders like Yao.  But a lot can happen between now and the end of the regular season.  Shaq needs to stay healthy, and TD and Manu need to get healthy.

What makes Miami special is the other 3 starters.  All of them are 2-way players.  Haslem, Jones and Jones (Damon) can play both offensively and defensively.  These were huge question marks entering the season that have been answered.  To have two undrafted players making such huge contributions is a tremendous statement for both their Front Office and coaching staff.

There is plenty of hoopla, I see it in the paper, on the sports ticker, in email, etc etc

My only problem is they constantly focus in on Shaq when Wade is beating him in a bunch of categories...some of those being minutes and points.  Sure Wade gets his mention and Shaq def is playing well...it just seems one sided at times.  Its not just the LA media either, its all over.  Fans too!  You would be suprised how many casual basketball fans think Shaq is doing everything over there and is like 'Wade who?'
