This thread would probably have been more appropriate over the New Year's Holiday, but anytime is a good time to reflect.

What is the best thing that happened to you in the last year?

Let's get personal

Best: The birth of my son.

Worst: Financial implications and worries that come from having 2 small children. $1000 in daycare expense each month? OUCH!

Worst of what I thought was a smart and good decision but has now become the that worst: Because my wife is staying home with our newborn for 3 months, I pulled the plug on my 4 year olds daycare, with the logic that I would save $3K in that timeframe. Also would allow the bonding between my baby and my daughter. Made sense, right? WRONG!

WORSE WORSE WORSE:
My mother in law ramming down my throat that my 4 year old is bored at home, and its up to me to get a part-time job working evenings and weekends so I can afford to send my daughter to daycare for that 3 months. Because she is bored! And hearing that every single day! What, is my wife incapable of raising her 2 children FOR 3 MONTHS!!!

Worse of the worse of the worse old school catholic style: THe fact that my mother in law calls me daily, and tells me she's lighting candles praying that I will land that part-time job that I need so I can financially afford to send her back to daycare! Not pre-school. DAYCARE! THAT'S THE WORSE!!!

What is the worst thing that happened to you in the last year?

My grandmother had to begin being fed through a tube. She's been in and out of the ER 3 times last year, it's been rough.

What is the best thing that happened to you in the last year?

My grandma's tube was removed and she's eating puree'd food.

What single event stands out in your mind of all the events that occurred from Feb. 2003 till the present? (This can be a personal event or news event.)

One of my kids got stitches, first time ever. I've got an 11, 7, 5 & 3 year old and my 5 year old "Piglet" daughter broke the good luck string.

What is your favorite techno-gadget that you have purchased in the last 5 years?

Laptop. I've always used desktop PC's, I swore never to buy a laptop cause they're so hard to deal with in every way shape and form. When I started working for myself as a contractor I bought one for about $2400.00, OUCH!, and it's more than proved its worth.

What is your least favorite techno-gadget that you have purchased in the last 5 years?

Two HP "All-In-One" printer. Fax, copy, scan and print. Both of them broke in less than 1 year.

1. best thing was just surviving the last year, it was horrible, totally horrible, i am so glad it is a new year, new outlook, better things have already started to go my way so far, ask me this question next year JW and i will have much nicer things to say... oooooh, best thing i can say last was was keeping my head up and believe in Christ was on my side, got me through a lot of stuff.

2. worst thing, too many things to mention, marital stress, nearly filing bankruptcy, nearly losing job, nearly wanting to end it all, you mention it,i more than likely went through it last year.

3.the war with Iraq, Oday and Qusay being killed, Saddams Capture. watching the president turn grey from stress.

4.well there was that thing i got from Adult Video Megaplex....ooops just kidding. techno gadget? hmmmmmmmmm. cant thik of anything major. PDA phone probably - although the damn thing has wiped information off 4 times so far even with software upgrade. other then that, probably my dvd player - gotten the most use out of that one. i have other techno stuff but some of it has just been used a few times and forgotten about to be honest.

5. now THAT was the thing from Adult video megaplex...just kidding. i would have to say my studfinder....i moved it across my chest and it didnt beep no, it was paid for and got got very little use from it.

Sorry to hear about the tough year, SPURSX3. Went through some of the same stuff myself last year, at least the first 6 months. Got laid off the end of year in 2002, and took me nearly 5 months to find something fulltime. Been working as a contractor since then on a project with LockHeed Martin for the FAA. I'm happy to be employed, but the work hasn't been particularly satisfying. Look to be starting a new fulltime job later this month waiting for the security clearance to be wrapped up. I'll have benefits again, woohoo.

Glad to hear this year's going better for you...well, except for that studfinder thing.

My new computer (or relatively new anyway) is the only technogadget I've purchased recently that comes to mind. I contemplated a laptop too, WOW, but everyone warned me about how unreliable they are.

My least favorite technogadget has to be the cellphone. A necessary evil, but I hate them.
