Michael Vicks hamstring injury was the catalyst in forcing him to become a pocket passer yesterday.  If he can develope that it will be ATL repping the NFC.

Late helmet shot on McNabb.  Rate the bogusness.  My own take is while it was not that late in real time, the helmet part is completely bogile.  NFL needs to impose much harsher penalty for helmeting a QB in the back.  McNabb looked bothered by it.

Contenders or pretenders?:
Dallas.  Pretenders.  49ers should be ashamed at that 15 point 4th qtr choke.
Cincinati.  For real. I know they need to be tested but i think they go 10-6 at least.
Carolina:  Contenders.  Delhomme is becoming king of the untimely game altering pick.  I still think they are Contenders.
Tampa Bay Defense looks great.  Forget final score, Green Bay was handed a completely bogus defensive interference call on a 40+ yard bomb.  Defender did nothing, it was offensive interference all the way.  Went from 17-3 to 17-10 and changed the momentum big time.  TBs D held the entire second half.

Miami.  Unconvinced, they always start out winning in the Miami humidity then fold in December.  But i like Lou Saban.  Jury still out.

Philly.  Cont. Squeaked by the Oalkland Airheads but when McNabbs injury heals they should play ATL in the title game.  Westbrook as much a difference maker as Me-O.

JVille. Dont know havent seen them.

KC Chiefs. Will see how it goes in Denver tonight Monday Night Football.  A loss at Denver is nothing bad but a win vaults KC to front of the line contender.

SD Chargers  Skandery, whoa.  Someone must have added a half a cup of regular to Martys cup of decaf.  Did you see the halfback pass call to open up the 2nd half and swing momentum back to Chargers?

That's a big IF reguarding Vick.  It takes time to develop into a QB who can pick apart an offense, and resist picking up a few yards with his feet.  The injury could also work against him, if another team can find a way to get a good hit on him.

Philly is really hobbled, thanks to the injury to McNabb, but I'm more concerned about the injury to Akers.  The special teams and field goal units are really hurt by this.  I also have to question Reid for not finding another kicker.  The PAT by Simmoneau was a joke.  Bottom line- the Eagles are good enough to beat anyone they can control the lines against, but thanks to the Eagles being cheap, I think that they're not as dominant as they were last year.  The game with the Raiders wasn't as close as the final score suggests.  A turnover by the Eagles tight end 3 yards from the end zone, made it close.  Even so, the Raiders offense couldn't take control of the game enough for a win.

Raiders aren't as bad as their record suggests.  It was very unfair for the NFL to have them play the Super Bowl Winner and Runner up in away games in the first three weeks of the season,

I was pulling for the Steelers yesterday, and they nearly pulled it off.  Rothlesberger looked good on those two TD passes.  But the Steelers rely on their running game to win, and they couldn't run.  No Staley and no Bettis means they can't beat tough teams.  They badly need those guys if the Steelers are going to go anywhere.  Got to give the Pats credit for winning with all the injuries.

The Raider schedule is par for the course for this team. If the League can screw Al Davis and the Raiders in any way, shape, or form, they will do it.

But besides always being behind the eight ball when it comes to key penalties and scheduling, without question this is probably the dumbest team that has ever maintained a level of boneheadedness for such a long time in the history of professional football. And it starts with the completely out-of-touch decision-making of its mentally challenged owner, Al Davis.

How this guy was once hailed as a "genius" is beyond comprehension now. He clearly is so in love with the so-called vertical game, he completely neglects the need to shore up the defense that is necessary to protect leads for a quick-striking offense that is supposed to stretch defenses with deep passes. If, on the rare occasions they actually score, the Raider defense is so inept that the other team will never be completely out of any game played against Oakland.

His draft history since 1997 has been terrible. Few of the players drafted stay with the team or make any kind of significant impact if they do.

Amen.  Chargers also screwed.  I think it's payback for not sucking up to NFL commisioner Paul Pile-of-Goo and the NFL overlords and building a new stadium.  Even tho all the repeat SuperBowl attendees said S.D. in '98 and '03 was the best rockinest place to have the SuperBowl ever.  No new stadium needed.

Schedule for Raiders and Chargers is at N.E. and at Philly (at Pitt for Raiders) yet fellow West Division and NFL media darling Broncos get them both at Denver.  Okay so their darling status is wearing off but still, what gives?

I feel your pain, since for some unknown reason I have a soft spot in my heart for the Silver and Black.  I found that the biggest differnence yesterday was in the comparision between the running backs.  Westbrook destroyed the Raiders defence, and Jordan couldn't do anything.

Of course, both backs have the advantage of having all-star wide recievers to stretch the field, and keep 8 men out of the box, but the Raiders don't have a linebacker who can play like Jerimiah Trotter, or a secondary that covers as well as the Birds.

Yes, the NFL has it in for Al "just win baby" Davis, but I think before this season is over the Raiders will establish themselves with a winning record.  Not every team can contain Randy Moss as well as the Eagles.  And they didn't pay Jordan all that money to not run.  I think their defense is better than it has looked so far.  Norv Turner is a good coach, IMO and given time he'll get those guys back on top.

But against the two top teams in football, they just don't have it yet.

Being at home won't help Denver when NE and Philly come to town.  If they come into mile-high healthy, the Broncos will get creamed.

Actually there is one team that will contain Randy Moss every week, and unfortunately that team appears to be the Raiders. Why do they even put Moss out on the field? They would be better served by putting some other receiver out there instead, like Whitted, because at least there is a chance Collins will actually throw him the ball.

As for the line play, the Raiders have, so far, inept run-blocking linemen, and decent pass blockers. But on defense they really know how to shine. The big, run stoppers they brought in have no ability to rush the passer and McNabb, who was clearly off the mark in the first half, could have decimated the Raiders if he could have hit another dozen of his open receivers. The Raiders are afraid to blitz because they have such poor safeties (ie Derrick Gibson, who should not even be in the League, let alone a top draft pick), and other then Woodson, no corners who actually can play the receiver instead of running over him.

But I have basically given up on any good plays the team might make. Too many get called back due to penalties. There is no fun watching this team week after week. Two touchdowns were called back last week (one was clearly a bad called on Moss in the end zone), and every big play resulting in a first down, you have to hold your breath until the yellow flag comes out, which is more common then the play actually standing.

It is just tiring to watch, week after week.

Well move KC off the frontrunner list.  They still are off to a good start to make the playoffs.  At home vs Philly next week will be telling.

Rt Denver is always helped at home.  Pats and Eagles will come no where close to "creaming" them.

After seeing them paste the Chiefs last night, maybe Denver will acquit itself well.  Don't put too much into the game with the Eagles though.

McNabb is hurt, even though the coach won't admit it and McNabb won't either.  In addition Akers is probably going to be deactivated which means the Eagles will be giving up field postion on all kickoffs, and won't be able to count on a long field goal or two to save stalled drives.

I would really like to see Detmer play the game and run the team, just to give Donovan the day off.  It would also be nice to see them try to run more and pass less for a change, not just with Westbrook, but Mahe and the new runner they have, who reminds me of Westbrook, Ryan Moats.

Reid is being an ass, not willing to stop passing on every down, putting more pressure on McNabb and the line.  Just plain stupid to rely on his arm when he can't really run, and ends up getting clobbered on break-downs.

In addition Darwin Walker will be out and so will Hollis Thomas, so we won't be getting the normal pressure on the other team's offense we normally do.

Vermiel will be up for this game, going against his old team.  And the Chiefs will be anxious to bounce back from the Denver debacle....

Philly was down 0-17 and 7-24 but wins 37-31 in scoring 31 straight points.
I missed most of it.  What came down?  K.C. pretender status.

Chargers MMmmmarty Shotenheimer had his decaff coffee spiked with regular again.  Key point up 24-17 with ball in 3rd.  Old Martyball would have grunted out a bunch of runs and gone for the ultrasafe field goal.  Yesterday on 2nd down he lets Brees hork a 30 yard bomb into the endzone for the momentum clinching 31-17 t.d.  Patriots are not the same tho with all the injuries.

ATL.  Bring on the Eagles.  Wait, Vick is getting crunched by nagging injuries also.

NYGiants.  Spoiled Eli got run from S.D.  Why and how did Pittsburg let Plaxico Burress go?  And how did this guy not get as many catches as Randy Moss and Totally Oblivious the last 4 years?  New York is gonna use him and it's going to work.

Cin  good enough to win and soft schedule I maintain puts them at least at 10-6.

New Orleans.  That was sweet.  Way to go San Antone.  Xs3 did you and Lurker roast tacos in the parking lot?  Cyber tacos in spirit then?

Redskins  Don't know how much longer they can pull rabbits out of their hat.  Denfense kicks tho.  At Denver next week.

Denver  would someone please derail the Donkeys.  Redskin at Donkey next week.

Tampa Bay.  Defense great.  O good enough to not lose.

Philly was just the better team, that's all.  Early on the Chiefs had the momentum, and the defense was confused by what they were doing.  Defensive coordinator Johnson figured it out, and the defense started forcing the Chiefs into 3 and outs.  You keep giving McNabb the ball and the Eagles will start scoring points, a lot of points.

Teams have to be able to execute against the Eagles defense if they want to win.  Very few can.  You can't outscore the Eagles because you can't stop them, so you have to keep scoring and running the ball.  Good luck!

Chargers are looking like the real deal.  The Pats are in trouble with all the injuries.

Atlanta- No Vick no nothing.  A hobled Vick won't get it done agaist the Eagles.

NY Giants.  The only decent team they played was the Chargers.  Still, a marked improvement from last year.

Redskins.  They keep winning.  It will come down to a battle between the Skins and the Giants for second in the NFC East.

Cincinatti- Haven't watched them, but they also keep winning.  Cincinatti!?

Denver gets challenged this week by the Skins.  If the Skins win, they'll have to be taken seriously.

Tampa keeps winning against weak teams.  Let's see them play somebody good before they get listed at the top of the NFC.

When has KC had a defense the last half decade??  No defense...monumental choke...sounds about par for the Chiefs don't ya think!

Matt Shaub got only a couple less yards than Vick (54 instead of 58) on the same number of carries (4), wait a minute, Vick's been takin' us for a ride, he's not fast or talented its that buncha no-namers on that offensive line!!  Warrick Dunn, T.J. Duckett, Michael Vick, and now TADA--MATT SCHAUB, rusher supreme.

Oblivious??  When teams used to play Pitt, the Free Safety would shade Plaxico and if there was a OLB dropping in coverage it was usually on Plax's side of the field.  Make no mistake Ward is the pro-bowler but Plaxico was always the player who struck fear.

I still ain't quite sold either.  But the rapport b/w Palmer and his Receivers is downright scary at times.

I hate to admit it, but "Chucky Face" is a great coach.  How do you manage to get production from Brian "not as good as my Dad" Griese, Joey "I used to could" Galloway, and Michael "I'm not drunk ossifer" Pittman.

Funny what happens when a team starts utilizing its best player, a player who also happens to qualify for best in the league.  Tomlinson is just plain disgusting good.  Gates is a freak, and Keenan keeps finding the holes those other two create.  Once this team gets itself a coach, a Superbowl berth might not be far away.

Al Davis wishes he was Pat Bowlen!  *hides*

In all seriousness, if the Broncs don't waste the Skins at home this week I will be PISSED!  We have Washington's first rounder this year, and those friggin' Deadskins keep winning the closest games imaginable.  Let's see...

Week 1 versus the "great" Chicago Bears: 9-7.

Week 2 versus the 'Boys: 14-13 win on two late TD passes to Moss.

Week 3 versus the Seahawks: 20-17 OT.

Hey, they're winning, and I give them credit for that.  However, their offense isn't that good.  They have an old QB who's gotten off to a solid start, but at the same time, struggled mightily last season.  He'll come back down to Earth, in particular due to his receiving options.  Moss is the only proven guy he has to work with, and while I like Cooley, he is still a ways away from making a big impact.  Portis isn't the right fit AT ALL for the running style Joe Gibbs' system employs.

Their defense is missing its best player (Arrington), and can only carry the offense for so long.

Suffice to say, Denver should win this Sunday.  Their home field advantage is, statistically, the largest in the NFL.
