And just who are the Kings sending in exchange? Bobby Jackson, that's who. The deal actually involves the Utah Jazz as well, who are shipping Raul Lopez, Kirk Snyder, and Curtis Borchardt to the Grizzlies, and <ahem> taking <gasp> back <shutter> Greg (I still can't believe this) Ostertag to be further tutored under the gentle caresses of Jerry Sloan.

How do I feel about us getting Bonzi (what a great name for this guy).

Jerry West threw in that point guard I mentioned earlier in this deal, Ben Dover.

Im probably the only person who likes Bonzi Wells.  IMO he is a very solid ball player and will contribute.  Still, not even I could say I would give up Bobby.   For a number of reasons a) he knows the team, the coach, and the system B ) he is a fan favorite and c) you know exactly what you get from him.  

Although a Cat/Bonzi combo could be very exciting to watch (If Sac-Town doesn't deal him)

JoMaL..dont you feel the bench just took a major hit on both sides of the floor?  They traded a good sixth man for another scoring-first starter.

Yes, westkoast I do think our bench took a major hit. We are turning over this important backup duty to a relatively unproven second year player, Kevin Martin, who is a good player, but hardly in Bobby Jackson's class just yet. And as far as I can tell, he backs up only the '2' and '3' spots on the court, leaving the backup point position still vacant.

However, Bobby has played very few games for the Kings in the last three years.  I wonder sometimes if his missing energy off the bench has been the correlation between the success of three years ago to the current team, even though personnel turnover and age has taken its toll with this team during that span as well.

But significantly, the Kings still lack a quality backup point guard. Bobby was supposed to be that guy, but he has played so little for the Kings because he was always out, it became a spot filled by Doug Christie.....until he was traded last February. Now, it is screaming to be filled and we currently have no one on the roster who can, other then Eddie House, who is really just an undersized two guard.

What this means is that the Kings are not done working the roster yet over the summer. The two significant free agents from last year...Maurice Evans and Darius Songaila... are hardly needed any longer, except as sign and trade bait.

An intriquing posibility was mentioned over the weekend, though. Doug Christie, as is commonly known, wants to have his contract bought out by Orlando, who he has at least mentally divorced himself from already.

If his feet are at all healed from his previous stint with the Kings, he has said publically he would only consider coming back to either Seattle....or the Kings. Otherwise, I guess he would retire.

He would be clearly giving up some salary, however.

IMO Bobby Jackson was an above average defender.  A very pesky, quick guard who ive seen frustrate a number of players.  My question is why would you trade away the two best defenders on your team (Christie Jackson) to get two guys who are more intrested with scoring???  Knowing that your team needs defense and not offense.

High scoring games are awesome to watch.  However if you arent winning then it doesnt matter.  Sure you can outscore the Hawks but what about Houston, SA, Seattle, and PHX?

I would guess that King's management thinks it can improve its team defense from within.

How? you have to have some defensive minded players there in the first place, a luxury the Kings haven't had in years.

Is Adleman still making decisions for his team on the defensive end??  If so, then I don't see their defense improving without having defensive minded players.

Even having one great defender like they use to makes a HUGE difference.  If you have at least one or two players who can play solid defense on the perimeter you can get away with having guys like Greg Ostertag and Chris Webber in the post.

Popular player. Seems like lots of teams covet a solid Ben Dover type player with a well-rounded resume.

Thought Utah also picked up another little PG named Seymour Butts. He has a little dart of a game too.

But that Jazz draft pick! You know the one. The guy who has the unfortunate dribbling problem, Obadial Spittal? He handles the ball like he has goo on his hands all the time.

Adelman usually lets his assistant coaches, Elston Turner and TR Dunn handle the defensive matchups.

Adelman is clearly just into the offense.  After watching him for several years now, I place him at the top of any offensive minded coach list in the NBA, especially during the regular season.

Its just that he probably would not agree to step aside once the post season begins, to let a playoff type coach take over.
