Shaq could opt out now?
« on: June 17, 2005, 08:42:47 PM »
Same article as the "Riley wants Shaq to have 4-5 yr extension" says:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2088602
"O'Neal's contract situation -- he can opt out of his existing deal and become a free agent this summer, although it's doubtful he'll leave Miami -- is the biggest issue facing the Heat these days."

Is that accurate?

The article starts out:   "Shaquille O'Neal is under contract to the Miami Heat for one more year."

Make up your mind ESPN.  Which is accurate?  Is it that Shaq has the complete and total say so as to this coming season, that say so meaning he could walk if he wanted to? :eek2:   I know he probably does not want to, my question is can he opt out now?

Reality,

I don't see what problem you have with these statements.

Shaq is under contract with Miami for one more year, but has the ability to opt out of the contract if he wants.  It's all up to Shaq.

Think Shaq's interview "Kobe Who?" sums up that equation. He's retiring in Miami.
