Maybe some of us here should become sports writers

I really think some posters here could be sports writers.  Obviously some of the ones we have now just say things to say em.  Making readers wonder if they are shock writers or actually journalists who know alot about the game they cover.   I just read on MSNBC that the Clippers are a franchise on the rise?  Is this guy serious?  Do they not still have the same cheapskate owner?  They are not gonna make the playoffs and were as inconsistant as any bottom of the pack team in the league (including their Staples roommates).  How are they on the rise?  Someone please explain to me why articles written about basketball have fallen off...anyone!

Why?  Couldn't say why for sure.  Maybe it's just to hard to be original now, everyone is trying to be The sports guru - look at MSNBC's Ventre - and it just turns out to be grade a crap.  I can say that I think JoMal, jn, and WOW could easily cut it as sports writers.

Ted and Rolando also...when posters around here really get into a topic we get some good posts/threads to read.  With the dumb, shocking things some of these players do themselves do we honestly need shock journalists to go along with em?

Dunleavy's son? I thought he was still a Warrior. There has been a bit of conversation that Coach Dunleavy would not mind if he got a chance to coach his son, but let's not put the cart before the horse. (Old sportswriter cliché - enter your personal favorite here________________ )!

Oh... and thanks for the props about being a sportswriter. I worked on my community college newspaper. I became the editor-in-chief my last semester. It was selected #1 in the State in overall excellence that year.

All things considered in blind hindsight, I kind of wish now I had pursued it as a career.

Maybe its just this season but I am tired of reading shock-writers and articles from guys like Peter V..(however you spell his last name, no coffee for me this morning) go off of rumors.  SI use to have really good articles, same with the sporting news, but it seems like there is less and less.  While there is more and more articles about other things not as important as the actual games themselves, at least IMO.  I heard more coverage about steroids than I did about moves/signing in the off-season of MLB.  Opening day for MLB and what do I see on MSNBC.com?  An article about Jose Conseco and his next book.

Nice try westkoast, but I recently saw Penn & Tellers B.S. show, and they had a bunch of "Feng Shuei" consultants come in.  They made a fortune moving the furniture around.

Absolutely useless, incredibly immoral nonsense, but it keep people employed and makes the idiot customers happy and gives them something interesting to talk about.

I guess that makes them about equal with Sportswriters!

Thanks for the compliment.  I just want to entertain the the nice people.

Even a good sportswriter can get on your nerves.  Bill Simmons is a great example.  He writes some stuff that is flat out hilarious but when he goes in to the same old same old about what it means to be a Red Sox fan it's terribly annoying.  The late Ralph Wiley was another example.  He could be subtle and pointed in one column and then the next would be pointlessly difficult.

Let me take the useles job part of this thread and veer off a bit.  Have you seen the ads for the upcoming version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?  There was a great bit in that book where a society has to reform itself on a new planet.  The useful people (blue collar and the scientists) trick the useless people into going to a different planet so there is a ship full of beauticians,  designers and marketing managers floating in space.

So the so-called "Useful" people planet has all this technology and advancements, but look like they did their hair with an egg beater, wear rags, and live in hovels with pet bears, and can't find a market for any of the stuff they produce.

Yeah, that's my idea of Utopia.
