OT: Miss your old NES, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy

http://www.romnation.net/

You need an emulator, which is software that pretends to be the system you are using (IE old school nintendo) and some ROMS (which are what they call the games when they turn them into a single file)

best free emulators:
Nesten = nintendo
Snes9x = super nintendo
Gens = Genesis
Kega = Genesis Game Gear Sega CD and 32X
Virtual Boy = Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Color, regular Gameboy

Ive got so many ROMS I lost track.  NES is easy to play on your keyboard since it only requires 2 buttons.  The other systems you may want to get a USB controller.  Well worth it if you are into the older systems.

heh

http://www.emuhelp.com

I set that site up many many many years ago.  Still own it (own domain and host it, don't run it day to day anymore), but don't do the day-day maintenance anymore.

if you'll look on the bottom:
EmuHelp.com is Copyright 2000-2004 Derek Bodner

You should be able to browse through and find an emulator for the system you're looking for.

Nintendo eh?  You can have a good laugh by finding the football game TecmoBowl and playing the Raiders.  ESPN did an article on the most unstoppable video game athletes of all time and Bo Jackson in that game was the easy winner.  I used to play that game and yeah, we had to ban people from playing the Raiders because it was so unfair.  Bo told ESPN that people come up and tell him that all the time.

used to look into that stuff before the whole file sharing crack down...speaking of which, anyone know any good file sharing sites that dont charge and arm and a leg to file share or download?  mp3's, movies, progs, etc.  i know some that are still doing the file swap thing, but i stayed off of them since they really started cracxking down on people.

westkoast, do you have any IM (yahoo, aol, etc) i can try to get a hold of you later today to discuss music, maybe take a look into the roms you got.
On the set of Walker Texas Ranger Chuck Norris brought a dying lamb back to life by nuzzling it with his beard. As the onlookers gathered, the lamb sprang to life. Chuck Norris then roundhouse kicked it, killing it instantly. The lesson? The good Chuck giveth, and the good Chuck, he taketh away.

Take Joe Montana, run all the way back to your end zone, pass the ball and you'll get a touchdown everytime.

Nah, Roms are technically illegal, and we do everything we can to prevent pissing the large corporations off.

HAHA i remember that.  My dad and uncle were huge Raider fans then so I always picked em anyways but I remember you could run like 30 yards backwards and then Bo would get a burst of speed and just smoke everyone.

I miss old NES games...Bubble Bobble, the old Mario, and my favorite of all time, EXCITE BIKE!!!!

The roms are not illegal if you own the cartridge.....the funny thing is most of the  NES games I downloaded I owned the cartridge anyways.  My system was just busted.  But like DB said....who would want to piss off a large multi billion dollar video game company who has been taking our money for 2 decades?

The roms are not illegal if you own the cartridge

Depends on how you acquire them.

If you own a backup cartridge, and backup your own specific game, then you are entitled to a backup copy of your original cartridge.

But any ROM downloaded off the internet is illegal, for a # of reasons.  First and most simple is, if you take a cartridge and back it up, you've now created the 1 copy you are legally entitled to.  If you then take that copy and upload it to a webserver, you've now created two copies of the original, which violates the DMCA.

In a nutshell, any ROMS on the internet are technically illegal, whether you own the original game or not.  Technically.

Yea you can IM me on 'AlphanumericOC'

As for file sharing......try IRC (www.mirc.com).  Takes a little bit to learn but you can find everything on one of the thousands of networks.  I can help you out if you get stuck using it.

You people just don't know how to take care of things.  We still have a working Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Playstation, Playstation 2 and a Xbox.  Biggest problem is that we don't have enough tvs to hook them all up.  Young nieces and nephews still enjoy the original Nintendo duck shoot the most.
It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave.  Keep on thinking free.

Us? Or our siblings/relatives?  I lost a Super Nintendo to my youngest brother sleep walking and deciding the little grey system was the toilet (I think that is one of the funniest memories I have).  My NES just went out, the good ol blowing in the system trick doesnt work.

Systems that ive let no one touch have no problems.  The Playstation I got the first month it came out is still running perfect.

PS2s tend to break down more often than Xboxes, so my manager buddy at EB games tells me.  Still have my original ColecoVision back home. Love to play it. Controllers will give you carpal tunnel real fast though...

The problem is you don't have decent TV's. ;)

My big screen can do PIP and split screen plus I can just run the video through any of the 4 PC monitors, although I typically mark the LCD "Off Limits".
