The Crusades were about more than just the poor having nothing better to do.  That was certainly part of it but there was also a mixture of genuine religous faith (woefully misguided in my opinion) landless nobles looking to establish their own fiefdoms, and many of the knights involved were just plain brutes looking to conquer.

Joe am I understanding correctly that you think radical Chrisitanity has been eliminated?  I strongly disagree with that statement.  In fact over the past 20 years it has in some ways become more prevalent, most notably with the appointment of John Ashcroft as AG.   To be honest "radical fundamentalists" of any stripe flourish when a people are either genuinely threatened or just feel threatened by change.   9/11 and it's aftermath certainly is enough to make anyone feel threatened and fearful. Just yesterday I saw a minister on local TV proclaiming that 9/11 was God's wake up call for America's sinfulness, a proclamation made by numerous people such as Jerry Falwell.  It's not just in America either.   The horrors of the breakup of Yugoslavia was aided in no small part by the extremist Catholics in Croatia and Serbian Orthodox believers.  Northern Ireland is another obvious example.

alright, there's obviously been some words said here.

Should I go back and edit all the four letter (or larger) words?  Or should I leave a disclaimer in the title?  of course, if kids are concerned, telling a kid there's cursing is like asking them to read it.

but then again, what kid would read through 77 posts to find a word they can find anywhere?

I laugh WOW when you say you want to have a serious conversation and then curse like a sailor -- that doesn't make me want to debate -- it makes me want to leave!

Sorry WoW, I've never had to talk down to you before, but if that's what it's going to take . . .

Randy says, "you make me want to leave." You say, "leave," I say "Like you did?" Referencing your drama queen episode when you stomped out of here because people complained about you.

So there you go.

jn,

Actually, I *DO* believe that the most radical forms of Christianity have been rejected and are essentially dead.  Old hatreds are still in place in a number of places - which is a big reason the Middle East will always be a problem - but the religious undertones behind much of the fighting - even in a place like Ireland - is dying out.  It evolves eventually into the things you see every day rather than the beliefs.  Ask the Irish if it's about religion, or about ties to Britain/no ties to Britian and see what they say.

I thought maybe you were attempting to make a gay joke about a doorknob in the ass.  Now THAT would have been funny.

You know I have no problem with respecting others wishes to not curse....but this whole censoring of what the children see on the Internet and message boards is extremly mild compared to what they hear on the bus/at recess.

To stay on subject, theres alot of funny political cartoons about the movie at the msn front page.  Each from both sides but funny nonetheless.

Man I can't believe he said that! "We have been through a terrible tragedy less than two weeks ago. We must protect our land. We must stop terrorism. Thank you . . . Now watch this drive."

Not even close to two weeks after 9/11

Fox exposed this as being an interview of Bush the timing of which was having nothing to do with 9/11.This piece was filmed after the Palestine murdercide bombers did another of thier hits on a mall or similiar location.

Just seconds before Bush says the part you see in Moores movie, Bush says words to the effect of "Isralies and those around the world need to be protected from these terrorists".

So what!  It was still a moronic thing to say!

I still agree with WoW. Stupid to say that kind of thing after talking about a subject like terrorism.

I am a little placated that it wasn't close to 9/11 and that it wasn't about 9/11 specifically. Still . . .  :bash:

I don't want to break up the snugglefest between Ted and WoW.

However I even agree with you both that it was a stupid thing for bush to say.

However Moore completely attempts to mislead by making this seem as tho it IS right after 9/11.

Point is about Moores twisting ways.

Movie ought to be editied at this point in time and show Chuck Heston crack Moore upside the head.
