Post devoted to the Sheed bashing

How would you know if people took sheed out of proportion when you're completely taken what I said out of proportion?

where did I say he was the sole reason the Pistons won?

Here's what I did say/do.  quoted someone saying sheed would bring down whatever team he was on, and say that obviously wasn't the case.

That's all i've said.

Sheed was a very big contributing piece to that team, and, IMO, the element that pushed the pistons over the top.  Is that far from "ruining" the team as described by the poster and was the prevalent opinion on this board?  Yup.

That was my point.

I agree, poor choice of words on my part.
A third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. A second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. A first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking.

A quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself.

I agree, you never said or implied that, poor choice of words on my part attempting to paraphrase what you said

I think we agree for the most part.  I just happen to believe that most of the criticism Rasheed has received over the last few years was justified.  I get frustrated with the attempts at moral relativism (Sheed to Patterson), and blaming the culture to reduce individual accountability, in an attempt to revise history.

How bad Patterson is has nothing to do with how bad Sheed was.  He made his own pile of shit, and he stepped right in it many times.  The notion that the culture of the Jailblazers somehow poisioned him is also bogus.  Sheed was right in the middle of all of it, and he needs to be held accountable for it.  Just because he now has a ring doesn't change what actually did happen.

Sheed's change of attitude has to do with Sheed.  Lets not act like Bonzi Wells and the other bad boys were beating up a 6'11 grown mad and forcing him to hit the blunts, throw towels in the face of teammates, and let his anger get the best of him.  The guy earned his rep himself.   I dont see why he all the sudden gets a pass.  Winning not only cures player problems but it makes basketball fans quick to forget about other situations prior to the finals.

I do however believe he has matured and grown up.  Something he did mainly on his own with a nice shove from Larry Brown.

Nor did I ever say that,

but comparing how much attention patterson gets based on what he's done v. how much attention rasheed got based on what he's done DOES have relevance when talking about the media image of a person.

Once again, look what I said.  I said that I didn't think Sheed was the problem on the Blazers, that the people I mentioned were worse people or as much of the problem.  Never did I absolve Sheed of the blame for what he did.

It's not all of a sudden, I've always supported sheed.

I definitely would count Larry Brown as a huge part of this.  Brown's a big believer in the North Carolina "family," and you can bet that that's part of why he gave Rasheed the opportunity.  But I also get the idea that Brown would be willing to excommunicate a part of the "family" that didn't act like part of the "family."  In a way, it was much like Rasheed's "last chance."

Trying to paraphrase you again,  the board is now known as the "O'Bodner Factor".   :D  ;)

uhh...I wasnt even directing that to you.  More like a general comment about what some  sports writers and various other NBA fans who have made comments about  Sheed.  If I was speaking directly to you I would have quoted you, like all of us do when we are speaking directly to/about someone on the board.

Joe, the first step (and IMO the biggest) when you have a problem is actually comming to realize you have a problem.  I think Sheed realized he needed to shape up or he was going to be bounced around and fall well short of what he could achieve with the talent he has.  Brown could have helped....but he didnt really help AI all that much.  The year AI broke out it had alot to do with things AI did himself.  Brown gave him a shove but I believe just like Sheed he was the main factor in turning his attitude around.  When AI stopped wanting to be that way you saw what happend.  Maybe Im wrong tho.  Just my take on it.
