New Rumors Swirl Around Rasheed and Spurs
SpursReport
Monday, February 16, 2004

A published report  in Monday morning's edition of the Chicago Tribune says the Spurs and four other teams may still be interested in swinging a deal for troubled forward Rasheed Wallace- who was recently traded to the Atlanta Hawks from the Portland Trail Blazers.

In the report sources tell Sam Smith that five teams are pushing to deal for Wallace. The Knicks, Rockets, Spurs, Mavericks and 76ers. A league loophole allows him to be dealt again before the upcoming trading deadline.

According to the report, but not confirmed by any official team sources, the Mavericks' offer includes Antawn Jamison, and the Spurs would give up a package centered around Rasho Nesterovic.

SpursReport is unable to find any basis in fact for the rumors, especially since Nesterovic has developed extremely well thus far this season under the guidance of Gregg Popovich and his staff. Still, other sources indicate that the Spurs are working the phones to see if any other pre-deadline deals might benefit the club.

Sheed playing for us?  I dont know if that would be a good thing or not, better scoring and defense INside with Tim moving to the center spot, but can we depend on Sheed the way we depend on tim if we move him???  wow three more days to see what happens....
On the set of Walker Texas Ranger Chuck Norris brought a dying lamb back to life by nuzzling it with his beard. As the onlookers gathered, the lamb sprang to life. Chuck Norris then roundhouse kicked it, killing it instantly. The lesson? The good Chuck giveth, and the good Chuck, he taketh away.

These Spurs dreams are getting almost as bad as the latest Peter Vecsey reports.  I don't think there is a loophole in a recently traded player (otherwise it would have been used years ago).

Next, the Hawks have given up a TON of players just to get players whose contracts are expiring -- it would take a LOT to get them to take someone else.  This makes them bigtime players in the free agency and that's what they want -- to rebuild.

As for the Mavs, I really don't see them trading Antawn Jamison -- they would give up Antoine Walker in a heartbeat but not Jamison -- and why would the Mavs want a stiff like Nesterovic?  He isn't as good a post player as Jamison and if the Spurs thought he was so good they wouldn't trade him.

This is a pipe dream!

Randy, I dont think Dallas would get Rasho, but they could use a real center, Rasho may not score much, but I would take his presence on the inside over what Dallas has right now.  in any case if rasho did leave i dont think it would be for dallas.  as far as why would the spurs pull the trigger even though they-YES- like rasho???  simple.  if you got rid of rasho in the middle who would fill his spot?  TIM DUNCAN would move to the center spot, and if they acquired Sheed, that would mean they would have a good scorer playng power forward where Tim was - that combo of Tim and Sheed is a serious upgrade from Tim and Rasho.  I like Rasho, but if the chance were there to get a better player to make a younger, quicker, better scoring twin tower team again - i would pull the trigger on it easy.  but yes, i agree, these are just dreams, Pop and RC may ask around about trades but nothing ever really comes out of that talk year after year, 3 days to go until the deadline, i dont see the spurs doing anything between now and then.  it would surprise me to see them go through with it to be honest.

I like the way the Spurs are gelling right now, I don't see that happening. If it did, I would welcome it with open arms.  Either way, Spurs are easily one of  the strongest teams in the NBA right now, even without Sheed.

There is.  Sheed can be traded instantly if he's the only player Atlanta sends out in the deal.  They just can't package anyone with him for 90 days (or is it 60?)
