On the set of Walker Texas Ranger Chuck Norris brought a dying lamb back to life by nuzzling it with his beard. As the onlookers gathered, the lamb sprang to life. Chuck Norris then roundhouse kicked it, killing it instantly. The lesson? The good Chuck giveth, and the good Chuck, he taketh away.

Umm, why is the government responsible for getting these people out of a nursing home?  Why didn't the nursing home administration make their own plans?  Did this area not have a mayor?  Police?

I just can't imagine a town not preparing it's own people for this kind of devastation.  If you insist that the federal government or even the State of Louisiana take responsibility for every person who is in the area affected by Katrina, then we need to triple the budget and manpower to make that happen.  It's simply not possible -- not to mention practical.

If I had family in that nursing home -- Bush wouldn't be the first person I would call -- it would be the owners/administration of the nursing home.  Of course, I think I would have gone and gotten my family member and taken them with me.

their are a number of people who could be blamed Randy, the problem I see is that there is just NOW help looking for survivors and injured or sick.  Again a major delay in resources.  Surely someone could have thought to look at the entire area and sent some man power to search or get an idea of what was happenning.  We spend BILLIONS in defense each year, man power and machinery being part of it, you mean to tell me there was NO AVAILABLE helicopters to do recon to see or possibly even assist in the evacuation???  I am not blaming the feds or the mayor for the death of 30 seniors, I just mentuioned that out of shock.  But really Randy, do you think we could have done enough as a country as we could have to help save as many lives as possible?

SpurX3,

I really didn't mean to infer that I think we did enough to save lives -- I guess my struggle came with people who sat back and waited for people to save them rather than acting on their own to save themselves and others.  I have a VERY difficult time with this whole nursing home thing -- personally, if I owned that nursing home or I was the administrator, I'M going to take responsibility for them.  Someone SHOULD have taken responsibility for them -- unfortunately, our government is notorious for red tape and moving slowly -- if you want to move fast, you work on the lowest rung possible.

You can't move national guard troops into a state BEFORE the governor requests -- that request should have come BEFORE Katrina hit.  But I guess my response comes from failing to comprehend that someone didn't do everything they could to help those people in the nursing home.

Perhaps I'm just looking at it wierd.  These people, unfortunately, have become the victims, IMO, of politics -- because everyone screamed about NO -- that's where all the help went (well, at least the help FEMA and the government is providing).  There are others who are trying to help smaller communities get back on their feet.

NO, I agree that whoever was in charge of this home should have gotten them out some way rather then being left behind - that persons head should be on a platter for that.  but I can understand why these people are saying "bush this..bush that.." You would hoep that after something like this we could learn and apply, however with the govt, more than likely they will shrug off whatever responsibility to what could have been done and leave things as they are.  obviously the way things are set up is not workable.
