Spurs just cut Ron Mercer

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have placed backup guard Ron Mercer on waivers.

The Spurs obtained the 6'7" swingman on July 24, 2003 as part of a three team trade that brought him and Hedo Turkoglu to San Antonio, sent Danny Ferry and Scot Pollard to the Indiana Pacers and Brad Miller to the Sacramento Kings.

In 39 games with the Spurs this season Mercer averaged 5.0 points and 1.3 rebounds in 13.2 minutes per game. :wacko:

Uuummmm.... I don't know what to say except that MAN! Ron Mercer is one major
underachiever.  

How does this help the Spurs?

Thinking they are going to bring in 6'10" scrub Sean Marks off the injured list.  Sean Who you ask??? :huh:   EXACTLY.   :lol:

Sean Marks? He's only the greatest hoopster in the long and storied history of New Zealand basketball!! Oh wait no, that's Kirk Penney who the Wolves cut.  :blink:

Maybe they are planning for more Hack a Shaq.  Still, aren't the Spurs still on the hook to pay Mercer a pretty healthy sum?

If nobody picks him up off of waivers, yes.

With his contract I doubt anyone picks him up until after he's cleared waivers.

He's a streaky shooter, not sure who would want him for a playoff run, more likely a bottom dweller will get him for his scoring.
