Philadelphia 76ers / Re: Speights might start?

I think the guy who wrote the headline wrote it poorly. The first paragraph says that Speights may crack the rotation from the start, but not the starting lineup. I'm guessing, until clarified, that he meant rotation because Jasner himself never mentions starting lineup in my quick skim of the article.

I'll give Sub 1st dibs if he is not already in the league (and I think other asked at philaphans before me.)  If you do need someone I certainly am willing, but since I'm already in the realgm league I'm good either way.

Should I just delete my team? My schedule just got much busier than I expected.

Which team are you?  I can remove it and email an invite to tk to keep things orderly.  I hope the busy schedule is a good thing for you.

Yeah, I have an infant, and things keep getting busier than I expect.

My team is Balls Deep

Been there, my youngest is finally in kindergarten.  Get the little one some Sixers outfits and spend a lot of weeknights rocking him/her to sleep as you watch the Sixers mow down their opponents. Damn though, that was the best team name in the league.  I will delete it and see you again in next year's league.

Thanks. I used the name for fantasy football, so now I use it for baseball. This would have been my first b-ball league.

Skates, I may not be able to stay in the league. Can you find a replacement? Let me know. Thanks

And, BTW, I love the fact that this is a one-year deal.  If he ends up not being effective, it's not a loss.  And, hopefully, Smith returns in a year.

Miller/Williams/Ivey
Igoudala/Green/Rush
Young
Brand/Evans/Speights
Dalembert/Ratliff/Smith

I take it with the Ivey/Rush signings that Gordon is out of the picture for us?

Do you mean Jamont Gordon? I think there's still a very good chance we sign him.

I agree. He likely won't be on the active roster, so the number of point guards is irrelevant.

I just looked it up, Theo is 35.

And SF76 also thinks they're looking at Magloire who just turned 30.

If you're looking for 8 minutes of defense off the bench when Dalembert sits or misses a few games, Theo has to be better suited for that role.

I really hope we get Ratliff. I was always mad that he was traded and I might be able to get some closure seeing him back in a sixers uni one more time.

By the way, how old is Theo? 35 or so?

Nonetheless, he wouldn't be counted on for many minutes anyway.

Philadelphia 76ers / Re: Josh Smith Signs offer Sheet with Grizz
« on: August 08, 2008, 01:47:01 PM »
Apparently it is a 5 year offer as per ESPN quoting the AJC.  I can't believe the Hawks will let him go for that amount.  This looks like a wink and nod deal between the agent for Smith and the Griz.

As Dabods said- 4 years at 58 million is a nice offer. However, 5 years at 58 million should be a no-brainer for the Hawks to match. We'll see.

woah.

How many years?

That's a tiny offer sheet.

Is 5 years the max for another team's free-agent? I'm guessing 5, possibly 4 years.

Actually, I guess 4 years would be more likely considering his restricted status and trying to get the Hawks not to match.

I love how Billy tried to give Sammy, Kyle, and Willie the max amount of years from the old CBA, but fortunately the league informed him that they shortened the length of contracts in the new CBA and he had to cut each of their deals down by one year.

Who are the key FAs next summer???

I don't know, but I'm guessing Josh Smith will be one.

I think, gathering information from different articles on the state of the Pistons, that Dumars realizes this team is not going to win another title with Billups, Rip, Prince, and Sheed as its primary 4 players. Since their title season they can't get past the conference finals and they're only getting older.

I think Dumars would like to reload to win in two or three years with Stuckey, Rip, probably Prince, and Maxiell. He can keep these four players and have cap room to make a run at a max player to complement this group. Therefore, moving Billups now means that in the summer of 2009 or 2010 he could take Billups 13 million and go get a player that would be younger, better, and allow playing time for Stuckey.

However, why make this move now? Why not wait a year? I think trading Billups now guarantees the caproom to take a shot next summer, they could have a large amount of room, and/or the following summer. Teams rarely get a player like the sixers did with their caproom, so you want to provide yourself more opportunities to use it.

Ultimately, 3 seasons from now, Dumars could envision a team with Rip, Prince, Stuckey, Maxiell, and a key free-agent. This could be more desirable than sticking with Billups for the next three years, likely not winning a championship, struggling to get Stuckey minutes, and letting Billups expire after you re-sign Rip, Stuckey, and Maxiell and have no shot at cap room.

For those who think Dumars is worried about making the Sixers better than the Pistons, I only suggested Dumars make this trade if he is willing to step back for two seasons to retool. If he is willing to take a step back by trading Billups for cap space, then winning either of the next to titles is not likely in his plans. Trading Billups for the always unreliable cap space is risky, but when considering that they likely aren't going to win the title in the next two years, I would definitely looked to the future.
