Fantasy NBA League / Lottery Results - 2009-2010
« on: October 04, 2009, 02:35:50 PM »
Starting up the lottery.  Refresher:
Broken down into consolation and championship brackets.  Consolation is guaranteed a top 6 pick.  Arbitrarily assign each player a value between 1 and 6, then run through a random number generator to determine first pick, second pick 3rd, etc.

Philadelphia 76ers / domain names
« on: May 04, 2009, 10:05:16 PM »
So...I'm thinking of changing the name of phillyarena, mainly because right now I don't have the time (both in terms of writing and in developing the site) to cover all 4 sports.  Rather than do 4 sports half-assed, I'm thinking I'm going to try to do one sport well.

A couple of different domain names I've come up with:
sixersfans.com
sixersonline.com
sixersfocus.com
sixersbeat.com

thoughts?

Philadelphia 76ers / NBA Draft Discussion
« on: April 01, 2009, 06:14:02 PM »
Maybe I'm just pessimistic right now, but with Thad's injury (I'm not optimistic of a return, at least of a return to the Thad of the last 15 games) I think our chance of stealing around are now slim.  So I'm looking at the season as being 12-14 games.

So, maybe this is premature, but I figured I would start a draft thread.  Seems about the right time, with the tournament ending.  I haven't yet extensively scouted potential draftees, but will once it becomes more obvious who's declaring and the Sixers season ends.

Also, it's looking like I may have a press pass to the draft and the media day before through draftexpress, which should be fun.  I'll try to provide what updates I can if I am there.

Philadelphia 76ers / PhillyArena Site development
« on: March 23, 2009, 06:40:50 PM »
I mentioned a while back that I had started up phillyarena again, and to this point it's just been just a blog.  I've been working on site development of it, as I like to do a lot of statistical data.  Recently I've been working on a lot of the backend scripts to parse boxscore output and put it in my own database, and now I"m beginning to start doing some stuff with the data.

The first part is a "team stats" section where you basically select a player, and select a condition, and it will give you the teams record and stats for when that condition is met, and compare that to when that condition is not met.

http://nba.phillyarena.com/teamstats.php

So, if you select Elton Brand, select "Plays/Doesn't play", it will give you the split of team stats (NOTE: team stats, not play) of when he does play vs when he doesn't play.  Similarly, if you want to see the Sixers record and stats for when Thad makes more than 2 three pointers in a game, you can do so.  Or when Louis Williams plays more than 25 minutes.

Right now you can't search on team results (say, when the Sixers as a team make > 7 three pointers), but that will be coming in the next day or so.  Similarly, right now you can "show game log" and view a game log of the team stats when these conditions are met, but you can't view the players game log.  That as well will be coming shortly.

Right now it's fairly rudimentary, and it's going to change fairly drastically (with new additions and style changes), but feel free to use it if you wish.  Please let me know if anyone has any changes/suggestions/bugs.

Let me know if there's any stat you'd like to find out and I'll see if I can find it.

Philadelphia 76ers / Sammy Requested a trade?
« on: February 20, 2009, 05:29:32 PM »
Didn't see this myself as I'm at work, but posting what was posted on RealGM:
Quote
Sammy requested to be traded! Say they don't want to utilize him then trade him. Says he wasn't happy how Cheeks used him and now Tony isn't on his good side. To bad Billy King gave this dope such a bad deal that we couldn't dump this guy yesterday like Ed seems to be trying to do.

They are talking about it now on Daily News Live with Dei.
...
Says he's always consistent and they were not consistent with him and he's saying like he felt they were trying to blame him for the troubles. Dei also says the money is what this is prolly about because he can't get to his incentives.
...
says Randy Ayers and Henry Bibby were driven up a wall dealing with Sammy
...
Dei also said that Sammy is lucky to have teammates that laugh off everything he says.

Philadelphia 76ers / Team stats
« on: February 04, 2009, 04:14:52 PM »
As everyone's probably noticed, I've started up phillyarena.com again.  Right now it's just a blog essentially, but by trade I'm a linux/network administrator, with a solid database and development background, and I'm a stat junky at heart.

These aren't in a format ready for use by the public, but if you want to use it, feel free to.

With/without brand stats:
http://nba.phillyarena.com/brand.php

Team stats broken down by month:
http://nba.phillyarena.com/monthly.php

Last X games (defaults to 10):
http://nba.phillyarena.com/last.php
http://nba.phillyarena.com/last.php?last=all <-- full season
(to change the value, just click on the link, and change the ?last=10 to a different number)

Try not to link to it yet (as before people start using it, I'd like for it to be functional and not look like crap), but feel free to use it for your own needs.

Philadelphia 76ers / Miller & Portland?
« on: February 01, 2009, 10:54:01 PM »
Have absolutely no idea who these guys are, but they're saying we've had discussions with Portland about Miller.  They'd obviously have to give more than just LaFrentz's contract.  I have some interest in Bayless, and actually think he'd be a decent fit with Iguodala, and if they're 100% convinced Miller's not going to come back, might be interested in that.  Otherwise, they'd have to take back at least Evans in the deal, and that's again only if I'm convinced Miller doesn't want to return.

Philadelphia 76ers / Burrell vs Ibanez: Streakiness
« on: January 12, 2009, 10:51:17 AM »
I've heard alot about Burrell's great inconsistency, and how Ibanez will bring a more consistent bat.  Burrell's overall production at the end of the year has been remarkably consistent the last 4 years (128, 122, 127, 125 OPS+), but in-season he's been inconsistent.

Right?

Not really.  Attached below is month-by-month OPS for both Burrell and Ibanez for the last 4 years.  Quick overview:

Months below .800 OPS (2005 onward):
Burrell: 4
Ibanez: 11

Months below .700 OPS:
Burrell: 2
Ibanez: 7

Have people making this argument actually looked at Ibanez's May and September this year?
Or his July last year?
He hit .184 with 0 HR over 103 at bats for crying out loud.

Ibanez is NOT more consistent than Burrell, in any regard.  In fact, he may be more inconsistent.

Philadelphia 76ers / Slightly OT: Rookie Watch
« on: January 07, 2009, 06:19:38 PM »
Eric Gordon is absolutely tearing it up.  he was the one I was hoping would fall come draft time (the undersized SG stigma), and we could move up a few spots and get him.  He's absolutely tearing it up right now, averaging 16.5 ppg on 47% shooting, 37% from 3 as a starter.  He's a solid defender as well.  He would have been a great fit here.

Also surprised by Westbrook's productivity.

Surprised at how little Portland's using Bayles.  Looks like Hickson might get a look with all the injuries in Cleveland.  I liked Hickson.

Can't say I'm overly surprised by Beasley's struggles, particularly on the defensive end (he has a -4.7 PER differential).

What's surprised everyone by this rookie class so far?

Philadelphia 76ers / new year, same jem
« on: January 01, 2009, 01:27:19 AM »
he's gone.

Officially the first (and only) banned user here.

I'm going to close this as I'm not looking for an argument/debate about his merits as a poster.  Having known jem (on the internet) for over 5 years, I don't really need a group decision.

I was hoping that jem would be different here, away from the kiddie atmosphere of RealGM and in a place with a limited # of people who he could build a rapport with.  He wasn't.  In the end, he didn't do anything overtly to get banned (just another dig at how "stupid" others opinions were), but his future on the board was something that has come up numerous times in the past.

Virtually every single one of jem's posts were confrontational.  Life's too short to deal with that bs.

What I am going to do is reiterate what this place is for.  I don't want to (and don't plan to) ban anyone.  Ever.  Ideally, this place is a place where friends come to discuss basketball.

You shouldn't be here looking for confrontation.  You shouldn't be here to prove intellectual superiority.  You shouldn't be here to get under peoples skin.  If you are, please leave.  If you're not, and you're just here to discuss a little basketball, then we welcome you with open arms.
