Yesterday was my dad's b-day so we were over his house doing a little b-day thing, we've got a huge surprise party planned for Sat. Anyway, my dad and his crowd used to be BIG poker players. My mom hated it because they would smoke, drink and stink up the house when I was just a little tad pole.
Anyway, he's JUST learning Texas-Hold-Em and he kicked my butt. I did make a mistake on one hand and gave him half my chips when I was WAY ahead and that hand got him back into the game after he was the short stack. He then informed me that he came in 4th out of 100+ at work durring a scheduled shut down that lasted 12 hours. He still doesn't understand all the aspects of the game but he's a very good overall player. The funny thing is there are alot to things I'm good at because I like to do them but my dads as good as or better than me because he had to do those things to eat. My dad played marbles, poker and b-ball to put extra food on the table back in the day. He and his little group of poor kids would goto the richer neighboor hoods in Oaxaca and Mexico and earn some cash. If they lost it cost them BIG, because every cent couted.
I will kick my dads asterisk on Saturday in POKER. I WILL! He loves to play so we'll be doing a little tourney after his party.
so from what i get from Texas hold em wow is that you get two cards, to hold or not. then the flop comes three cards down on the table from the house, you can win with a pair of highest value cards - CAN you still win by flush, full house etc if it so happens to fall on the flop??
