It's sad when a guy can talk basketball on a message board for close to a decade and still doesn't know the different roles between head coach and people in the front office like the GM.

If a GM isn't listening to his coach (particularly one with tenure) he isn't doing his job.

Does Jerry Sloan strike you are the Larry Brown type who needs control over each and every decision made by management?  They are short a big man so he could have easily said 'Ya we need a big body, make the move' and just as easily they could have made the move with out getting his blessing.  There is slim pickens out there for available big men.  Who else would they have gone after???  Shaq?? Ilgauskus?!  Jermaine O'Neal was snatched up already.

Sometimes its smart for a GM not to listen to his coach regardless of who they are.  Yet another Lakers example but it's still fresh....Phil Jackson did bring up trading Kobe Bryant at one time.  The Lakers also did not contact Phil Jackson about Steve Blake recently.

Jerry Sloan has a huge amount of influence with player personnel decisions. According to an old story in the Utah news a few years ago, nearly everyone in the front office wanted Chris Paul over Deron Williams. Jerry wanted DWill. He made his case, and the late great Larry Miller went with him.

Al Jefferson would not have been traded to the Jazz if Sloan wasn't on board.

I think Jefferson is going to work out really nicely. He will have a career year with a guy like Williams setting him up. If he can only tighten up his D, we won't miss Boozer at all. The great thing is that Al's minutes do not have to come at the expense of Milsapp's minutes. I think he's going to work out nicely.

And Raja Bell is the perfect kind of guy for Jerry Sloan. And he loves Sloan enough to give Kobe and Phil the finger, which really is surprising. Great opportunity for a ring in one of the greatest cities in the world, and he passes it up to come back to Salt Lake City. That just doesn't happen!

I think half the FA's in the league use the Lakers as a negotiating tool to up their dollars.  I was not as high on Raja as I was on Barnes.  Can't wait for the season to start so we can get a look at the Miami Dream Team.

I agree.  If you're a marginal guy, who should get a marginal contract, start talking to a big name franchise, and the amount the little guys offer you goes up.

Not that he doesn't like Sloan and is not familiar with Utah or anything but.....

They offered him more money  :D

Let's not act like this was strictly done for love.  They gave him a bigger contract.

Go play in traffic.  The fact you even brought his daughter into this for no reason other than to be a sarcastic little POS says a lot about you.   I like how you didn't mention he was in talks with Boston (#1 Medical area in our country) or the fact that is very possible for his daughter to stay in LA when he plays in Miami.  He owns a house out here.  His home wouldn't have to go with him RealGenius.

You dare to show your face in here after your stoopid comments on how Utahs GM would not check with Sloan before offering Al Jeff a contract?   :D :D
Then after corrected you go into backpedal mode and try to compare Blake to the Lakers "every little thing a GM checks with his coach".

Using your reasoning, it was very possible for him to own a house in Utah while she stayed in LA too.  Nice fail.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really Reality?  Do you want to play the 'how dare you show your face in here' game?  If that was the case half the threads you post in you should NEVER EVER post in again.  My suggestion that it is possible for GMs to do things with out coaches blessing, Lakers being a one week old example, is not far off base.  Why I should "run for the hills" because of that comment, I have no clue.  I don't really need tips from you on this message board, thanks very much.  My comment hardly compares to any of the stupidity you've posted all over this message board.

Um dumbass,   Did you seriously stop to think about what you just posted about Fisher and his family?  Derek Fisher went to the Golden State Warriors, that is in Northern California.  He was not in LA before going to Utah.  You might want to know what your talking about before you talk.  He left Oakland to jet set over to Utah.   When he was in Utah they found out she could potentially die from this rare form of cancer.  Why would a loving father not want to be at his daughters side at any given second, at all the doctors visits, and spend personal quality time with her?  No, Reality, in your world you would have stayed in Utah not spending what could have been the last days of your daughters life just to 'stick it to the Lakers'  This is exactly the kind of stupid bullshit you constantly post and yet I should not 'post in here anymore'  The irony is just too much for me.

What you actually posted:

dabods, Joe and Ted have all attempted to give you a correct view of the GM/coach relationship, specifically Sloans tenure and specifically for having to replace a lost all star center.

I merely asked if they had an eye specialist in Miami.  You have not answered.  Previously you Laker Bois chant was that L.A. was the only place that had the proper doctor(s).
Back to Miami, well as you pms'd above, wouldn't he rather stay close to her in L.A.? (you asked).

You are an idiot, plain and simple.  A GM/Coach relationship varies from franchise to franchise.  To act like every GM clears every single move with a coach is not true.  I gave a fresh example of that.    Again, you posted as if Sloan or any head coach makes all the GM decisions, they don't.  Your original comment, which was worded as if Sloan was the GM, was off base.  You said 'Sloan doesn't know what hes doing????' in reference to the attempt to get Al Jefferson.  Sloan didn't go after him.  The GM went after him and consulted with Sloan.  There is a clear difference between the two.  You still must not understand the difference between a head coach and a general manager.

I didn't PMS above.  I simply pointed out how  stupid you are, how it was ironic that you would give such advice to 'never show up in a thread again' considering all your asinine comments in other threads,  and how you constantly talk about things you really don't know all that much about.

His daughter is currently not in a life threatening situation with her cancer.  That was the whole point of running to LA so fast. Her life WAS in danger.  Currently, it is not.  She received the treatment from a specialist in LA to keep her from losing her life.   Again, if you want to speak on things, know what your actually talking about.

On top of all of that, if Fisher was using Miami to get more money out of the Lakers it failed.  He didn't get more money from LA than what was offered by Miami.  He came back in part because Kobe asked him and he wanted to defend their title.

Some of the lamest backpedaling and unaccountability.

We all knew the relationship between Sloan and Utahs GM on a decision of signing -or not- Al Jefferson.  The title of the thread and the subject being discussed.
You are the only one who not only didn't but still does not get it.  Yet you continue to yip.

As to Fisher, the reports i read had LA offering him much less before Miami then after.  Using Miami to get LA to up seemed the intent.

Lastly you know Fishers daughters medical situation?  Please do provide the link(s).  Since you know.
