Finally a game the Sixers can (and should win).
It will be interesting to see how long it takes for AI to get his legs back. He used to recover from injuries faster than anyone, indicating he's been blessed with a very healthy body, but there's no telling how fast he can get back into NBA shape at the age of 34.
I suppose the fact that he played over 30 min. indicates he's not that out of shape, but it's clear that he wasn't playing his usual game. It will be hard to know what in shape means since it's not clear he has a lot of 30 point games left.
Playing as a facilitator is a better role for AI anyway at this stage of his career. It's more important that he get 10 assists than it is that he gets 30. If he can get Brand and Dalembert easy looks, or free up Thad or Andre for a spot-up shot, that makes the Sixers offense significantly better. Closer to where they were before Lou went out.
I still think the Sixers are short one good player, but since we have 3 injured, that isn't surprising. If Jrue can come back tonight that will help. With Iguodala, Iverson, Green and Holiday there's no reason to see Ivey.
Now that Brand is back and playing alongside Sam, the Sixers can rebound again. They need help however, and so far Smith hasn't stepped up. This should be his opportunity, since Speights is out and Brand has been out as well. It is disturbing that he isn't playing, and even worse when he plays and looks lost. There were times when I saw him hustle out there and shoot from the outside, and even when he failed on defense it was clear that he was trying and that he cared. Smith needs to get his game together and be ready to contribute, especially with the injury. If he can't play, the Sixers need to find out.
