I'm a CPA.  I currently work in a small (9 employees) local firm.  I bounced around a lot after high school working as a bartender, route delivery, construction, restaurant manager, grill cook, etc.

After 4-5 years I started back to community college while working.  I soon moved to Texas and continued to work & put myself through college.  Numbers have always been easy for me (I took calculus as a HS senior) so I picked a career where I don't have to expend large amounts of energy to succeed.  It also allows me time to surf the net and post on BBS.

bbf.......lurker...  arent you at a research facility?  just curious.  thought you were at swri...
On the set of Walker Texas Ranger Chuck Norris brought a dying lamb back to life by nuzzling it with his beard. As the onlookers gathered, the lamb sprang to life. Chuck Norris then roundhouse kicked it, killing it instantly. The lesson? The good Chuck giveth, and the good Chuck, he taketh away.

I think you were misunderstanding what Lurker meant by the initials CPA -- you thought he was an accountant -- CPA for Lurker means Coach Popovich A**kisser.

No, my wife works at SFBR (Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research...for you non-locals).

And, Randy, get it right.  CPA stands for Certified Pain in the ___!  Or for those from California CPA means Car Parking Attendent.

As I stated I am responsible for material purchase for a millwork company.  We buy material from all over the world.   Commodity prices have been shooting up like a rocket the last 5 to 6 months.  For a couple of benchmark items our raw material prices have increased 88% in 6 months for one item, 61% in 3 months, 33% in 6 months, 68% in 6 months.
The biggest problem is international shipping problems.  The Chinese have put incredible pressure on containers, and container ships, and bulk vessels, to the point that incredible disruptions are occuring.  In Brazil for example the shipping problems have reached almost buckling proportions.  There is a massive overload of material at the Port of Itajai in southern Brazil.  Presently their is a line of trucks waiting to drop material at the port 92 miles long, because their is no room left at the port.  One truck has been in line for 30 days, and emergency agencies, and the Red Cross are bringing necessities to the drivers stuck in line.
My situation has been hell, as I am responsible for supplying the facilities with materials, and we are getting hammered with massive cost increase, and also material not being delivered or delivered months late.
A third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. A second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. A first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking.

A quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself.

Reality, just make sure that you explain to them that as soon as the Spurs fall from their vaunted "frontrunner" status that you will abandon this post via whatever bandwagon is making the most noise.

My understanding for why the playoffs are they way they are is because the SBC Center gave first priorty to Dora The Explorer live -- the Spurs had to take the dates left over.

Reality style promotions and commercials on Telemundo.
101 riding his bike up to the chicks on the street then down to McDonaldos.  We're gonna keep that theme going.  It's very popular.

You know, Reality, I'm not afraid of tough years -- why?  Because I've seen some VERY tough years with my team -- the years when Sedale Threatt was my favorite player -- when Vlade first started playing ball -- when Elden Campbell used to amaze you and then make you want to kill him all in the same game -- when the Lakers were so loaded it made the Blazers look like a CBA team with Avery Johnson at the helm -- when Cedrick Ceballos scored 50 points.  I remember all those days -- it's the one thing you can guarantee that is going to happen -- that your team will never be at the top -- of course, that doesn't occur if you jump from bandwagon to bandwagon -- then your team always has a chance at a championship.

The Lakers have been the best organization in basketball -- decade after decade and that heritage is the reason why purple and gold is a beautiful color.  Of course, if all you've ever experienced is Texas -- I guess those colors might seem okay, maybe,   .

Hard to know when to take you seriously, Reality. But in the event that you actually applied and were interviewed for the job with Spurs Sports and Entertainment, I wish you the best of luck. Should be a fun job although it looks like it will require long hours.

I am a technical writer, meaning I develop user manuals and online help for software and IT hardware products. Currently, I am working for a company that contracts with the NRC. Since the big tech bust a few years ago, most of the tech jobs in this area are government contracts.

I wouldn't know, Randy. I don't read Harlequin romances.

Somtimes your attempts at humor go far afield.
