The Eagles thread.....
« on: October 11, 2009, 05:04:16 PM »
Even though we're weeks into the season, I still don't know how to think about this team. They look loaded, especially on offense, plenty of skilled players and speed to burn, multiple sound QB's, good lineman, not thrilled with the play calling at times.

Defense is hard to get a bead on, as it ends up in very difficult situations and still comes to play. Maybe a little too blitz happy, not sure the secondary is up to snuff. Not sure about their run stopping either, but that's why they got Trotter back.

The uncertainty comes more from who've they played, or rather who they haven't.  New Orleans has been their only real test so far; they are a good team and Brees is an excellent QB. They may have won that game even if McNabb was healthy, as special teams were awful that day.  Still, may of the mistakes that led to the special teams being out there were a result of gaffs by the offense, run by a very raw Kevin Kolb.

Thanks to the NFL schedule, apart from NO, all the Eagles have faced are jv. teams, and it will be that way until they play the Giants in another 3 weeks.  I don't even think the Eagles have demonstrated all they can do, there's no reason to tip their hand until another team can challenge them.

It's clear that in the NFC East, the Giants are for real and a very good team. Washington and Dallas are very suspect thus far. Nothing to say until they face the Giants, except that they are getting way too many penalties and they often score too fast on offense to give the defense rest or to control the clock.  It's fortunate that most of the teams they played haven't been good enough to capitalize on the mistakes.
