Star Trek preview - Wolverine review
« on: May 03, 2009, 10:50:06 AM »
I know all you geeks are currently viewing Wolverine for the 5th time (Skandery, review please),
but......

How bout those Star Trek previews?  I am not a Trekkie but have enjoyed some of the movies and many of the old eps.
This new one looks very well done.

Wolverine was ok, there were some incredible sequences, like when the "team" attack a stronghold of some guy counting diamonds.

The beginging of the movie was really good and I only caught myself bored/distracted twice but was quickly snapped back into the action (the old peeps and Wolvie having a heart to heart only to have it get all messed up) by agent 0.

The new Trek looks very good, hopefully it will be better than X-Men, and Terminator follows right behind the following weekend.  GI Joe looks good as does some other movie about aliens or something becoming pests in some part of the world.

wolverine was good.....although the spin on deadpool had me going, "WTF!?"  deadpool is great in the comic books...sigh.

District 9, looks really, reminds me of "V" for some reason.

Transformers 2, Looks good - and now it seems you can actually tell which robot is which even during the action sequences.

Terminator movie Looks good.

Funny People, year one, and up I want to see as well.

I am not quite sure what to make of G.I. Joe....may wait for that on dvd...

I think its funny Reality calls me out for the review to Wolverine.  Instead of . . . y'know. . . Wolverine!!  Hey Caleb, where the heck are you at!!!!  Actually I'm going to deduce (having not talking to him in a couple weeks, mind you) that he's madder than a hatter at a tea party.  I bet Caleb wants to take Hugh Jackman and Gavin Hood and commit some 1st degree evisceration; which brings me to the review . . .

Before I go any further, I'm going to get this out of the way.  They screwed the storyline 9 ways from sunday and back . . . ALL NINE WAYS!!!  That is why Caleb is probably in a murderous furor at this point.  But I will actually give them somewhat of a pass because the story of Wolverine is a 35 year old saga, man-SOAP with multiple takes, multiple authors, multiple ideas and threads (most of which have never gone anywhere), multiple timelines, and multiple migraines for anyone that thinks they can make a contiguous 100 minute feature getting all the strands correct.

For what the movie was:  an action flick starring everyone's favorite, flesh-tearing Canadian with various characters (minor and major) that have come to be associated with said character; it did the job.  I quite enjoyed myself while watching the movie.  Every 12 minutes, I had to remind myself, "Keep calm, don't get mad, this is about all they could hope to do".  I like Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed, Liev is a good actor and while the how's and why's of the character were skewed, Schreiber pulled off the seething psychopathy of Creed.  Stryker had too important of a role . . . AGAIN, while Dr. Cornelius wasn't even mentioned by name.  Gambit wasn't in the movie enough.  The casting wasn't horrible, but he voice work went from forced to bad to non-existent.  If you're going to cast Gambit, pay for some voice coaching and get the cajun accent down.  As it was the character went from cajun, to southern, to not even trying anymore.  The action sequences were cool with Gambit, I wish they used the character more; but I'm biased.  Archangel and Gambit are my two favorite Marvel characters by a long margin.

I'll admit the end part with Deadpool made me angry.  You did a fantastic job casting Ryan Reynolds for the part, and Ryan Reynolds played Deadpool to a T in the beginning of the film.  You then turn Deadpool into a ghoulish, mute, jigsaw mutant, with retractable katana's!!  I think you could have filmed Gavin Hood urinating on a Deadpool comic and then lighting it on fire and achieved about the same effect.  Why people?  Why??

Anywho, if you're a hardcore Marvel afficianado wanting to see a comic translation onto the screen?  This is not the film for you!  If you don't and never will care about the source material; then check it out, its got some pretty cool action sequences . . .  . and, oh yeah, lots of violence.

C+

I haven't actually seen it yet.  My spirit's pretty much been beaten down thanks to all the horrible reviews the movie's gotten.

At some point I'll see it.  Maybe in a few days, but at this very moment, my expectations are pretty much in the toilet.

It really is not that bad.  The characters have been redone to be more modern - which marvel has done for just about all of it's movies.  I agree with Skand on the extreme they went in this movie had me like, "SAY IT AIN'T SO!"

There were some shots in the film that looked cheesy, and it could have used some better editing IMO, but It was an ok story to follow.  Not too bad for what it was, but it could have been better too.

i saw the ending after the credits when i watched it online.  forgot all about it.  must be where he meets the next wife.  To be honest, I was never a real big fan of Wolvie's japanese adventures.   :-\

Yeah . . . . and?

Sometimes people walk out before the final scene, now it seems that people stay till the bitter end for every movie with no payoff.

Not even trying to own these guys since they, unlike you, are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more intelligent than the average organisms floating around in a booger.

Just watched Star Trek, I gotta say.  It was excellent!!  They way this was rebooted was terrific.  All I got to say is I hope J.J. Abrams will continue to guide this series.  Great movie.

Also just watched Star Trek and....above average at best.

Had its moments, had potential but all in all a snoozer for me.
SpursXs 3 should we save the details for the rest to see it?
