OT - WPT (World Poker Tour) season 4 or 5?
« on: January 05, 2009, 05:04:19 PM »
This is the second time the WPT is changed channels to start a new season.  It used to be on the Travel Channel for the first few years then it switched to GSN.  This year I saw a commercial for it durring the Lakers game on FSN.  They said they were kicking off the new season with the first show airing at 1 a.m. last night  WTF?  Did I miss the actual first airing?  I don't think so, my DVR would have recorded it if it had aired on any channel and I did not see it on there.

Is the WPT losing viewers?  Why are they airing it on a regional channel and at 1 a.m. no less.  I can understand them airing repeats at that time but not first time shows let alone the season opener.  Obviously the Poker craze has diminished since Jamie Gold won that record setting field tourney but I didn't think the show that sparked the Poker flame would lose so much popularity to be shuffling channels so much and airing at weird times.

The poker craze seems to be dying a bit.  Not quite sure why.  When I was in Vegas last week the poker tables were light.  Not use to seeing that, recession or not.

IMO the Poker craze "jumped the shark" when Jamie Gold won the WSOP Main Event.  Maybe there is one too many poker shows on TV or something.  I'm so glad Celebrity Poker Showdown is gone!  Some of the worst poker I've ever seen on a consistent basis.  But the heavy weight champion of the HORRIBLE poker world is Hip Hop Poker stars.  Those were the STUPIDEST people, let alone Poker players, I have ever seen.

I think that's part of the problem too.  They had all those celebrity poker shows on top of the few they already have.  You know how it goes, they will milk anything they can until it dies.

Seeing no one playing poker in Vegas was weird tho.  Usually you have to sit and wait in line for a while to get on a table.  I was out there for New Years, like 300k other people, yet no one was sitting down.

What casino?  It's not unusual to see empty tables at the casinos.  Now if the Bellagio, Binions, Mirage or Ceasars is empty then there is definately a problem.

MGM Grand was empty.  Like a ghost town.  I think there was one filled table out of 10.  Most were empty.

Ick!  That's one of the hot rooms in Vegas.  Maybe it's a vegas thing in general.  The Poker rooms in LA are always packed on the weekends.  At the largest poker room on earth, Commerce, it still takes 45 minutes to get a table on Fri/Sat night.  Sta-Range
