Trivia test
« on: December 30, 2008, 05:22:39 PM »
http://www.sporcle.com/games/nba50greatest.php

This is an 8 minute test to see if you can name the 50 greatest NBA players.  You have to spell the name correctly, but only the last name is necessary.  I got 40 out of 50, but I missed some pretty obvious ones.
A third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. A second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. A first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking.

A quotation is a handy thing to have about, saving one the trouble of thinking for oneself.

would have loved to have taken it if not for the fruity spelling requirement.

Got 41 of 50.

I couldn't for the LIFE of me figure our the name of the "Kangaroo Kid", just couldn't come up with Cunningham.  Shameful!  Didn't know how to spell Debusschere, but KNEW it.  Couldn't remember the 2-guard in 1st half of Celtic dynasty--Bill Sharman, but I knew that particular player was one.  Those 3 should almost be partial credit.

I legitimately completely forgot:  Tiny Archibald, Clyde Drexler, George Gervin, Hal Greer, Pistol Pete, and David Robinson.  Pretty bad I know.

Those darn Spurs, Sixers, and Blazers that I couldn't remember.

36 for me.  I forgot Parish and McHale until the very end, and didn't get them entered.  I knew DeBusschere and Arizin, but wasted a lot of time trying to spell their names.  Legit misses were Barry, Bing, Drexler, Greer, Lucas, Pettit, Schayes, Thomas, Walton, and Wilkens.

Cool game!

I suspected DeBusschere, but I had no hope on spelling and wasted some time trying, at which point I moved on.  I forgot Charles Barkley, Rick Barry, Jerry Lucas, Nate Archibald, Pistol Pete, Bill Sharman, Sam Jones and a couple of others.  I did get Greer, Wilkens, Dolph Schayes, Dave Bing.  I wasted sometime on some others I thought were sure things trying different spelling before I moved on.  I of course got both Walton and Drexler.  I would have done better if I had figured out that they were layed out alphabetically, I may have had a shot at Tiny, and one of Barkley and Barry.

I did the #1 picks back to '67, and I got 100% on that one.  It helped greatly that it had the universities and the years.

I got about 60% on the Simpsons characters.

Can I cite being, as JoMal says an elementry school student, as being my excuse for such a poor score?  I got everyone from the late 80s on...other than that?  No go, unless of course they were a Laker!  Shout out to Jerry West!

Just tried the #1 Draft pick test - and got them all.  Only had 3:09 left, because it took me a while to come up with the Sacramento pick out of Louisville.

In fairness, there were two that I shouldn't have gotten - except that one's name happens to match with part of someone else's name, and another matches entirely.

Good test, though!

Okay - a few other trivia tests:

Teams of Larry Brown:  11 of 13

High School Rookies:  22/31  (missed a certain Hornet draft pick that everyone on here will make fun of me for missing, couldn't think of the Clipper who blew out his knee, missed the first one on the list - should have gotten those 3)

6th Men:  19 of 26 (missed 93,94.99,00,01,03,04)

MVP's:  53 of 53.  5:29 left.

Scoring Leaders:  18/24.  Missed 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 22.

Got all 62 NBA Champs.  6:12 left.

Got all 40 FInals MVPs.  5:30 left.

20 of 25 Rebound leaders.  Missed 14, 16, 18, 24, and 25.

49 of 59 Rookies of Year.  Missed '53, '53, '55, '56, '58, '63, '67, '71 Portland, '74, and '87.

Not even going to post the NBA Arena results for fear of being laughed at.

Hornets HS draft pick?  Who was that?  I'm sure nobody of any relavence, probably not even in the league anymore....  :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I'm so bummed about Livingston, he looked soooooooo good, had the Clippers curse not picked him he'd probably be a top 10 PG.   :'(

He'd definitely be better than Tony Parker.

Just took "The 50 Greatest" test.  Got 32 out of 50, which is better than I thought I'd do.

For the record, I didn't look at the previous posts here before taking the quiz.

The obvious ones I missed that I clearly should've gotten (and will no doubt take a lot of heat for missing) are Ewing, Unseld (who I spent several minutes picturing and not remembering his name) and West.

The others are Barry, Bing, Cowens, Cunningham, DeBu..., Frazier, Greer, Jones, Lucas, Monroe, Schayes, Sharman, Thurmond, Wilkins and Worthy.

I did get Arizin, which is pretty sweet.
